(Edmond North vs Edmond Memorial)
Game Information: 2/28/19 @ Western Heights-8 PM
Aside from the talent between these two teams. An in town rivalry game is always a must watch! Edmond Memorial has struggled for the season with injuires and new coach dynamic while Edmond North has an influx of veteran players mixed with a few new players who get significant minutes. This will be the 3rdtime for this team to match up. 1stgame Edmond Memorial won by 3 points and the 2ndtime, Edmond North claimed the victory by 5! The rivalry of this game is enough to want to watch regardless of any situation but the 3rdgame to play team is always an interesting one but the stakes are much higher! Not only will the winner automatically advance to state, but the 3rdgame will determine the ultimate winner of this match up series.
Edmond Memorial
Edmond Memorial had a different start to season by learning a new system from a new coach just a few weeks before official season began. The Lady Bulldogs held the #1 ranked spot in 6A for majority of December. Aside from learning a new system, Edmond Memorial has been stricken with injuries which has dramatically altered their style of play which altered their position in rankings finshing at #7 in 6A. Nonetheless, Edmond Memorial still manages to find themselves on the Path To State regardless of the difficulties they have faced.
- Players to Watch
- Kaitlyn Levings: Long and Wiry with the ability to score from all levels in multiple ways. Standing at 6’2, she can handle the ball well and is not shy to getting her teammates involved.
- Taylor Norman: 3 point shooter in the half court and great at running in transition for her teammates to find her and pushes the ball well in transition too.
- Erin Rhodes: Defender that likes to get steals and a consistent shooter with a quick release from the 3 point line
Edmond North
Throughout the entire 2018-2019 season, Edmond North has remained in the top 10 ranked teams in class 6A. Of the 6 losses they have, majority have been games within 1 to 3 points from other top ranked teams. In the end, Edmond North finished regular season being ranked #5 in class 6A. With all that said, Edmond North has a losing record to all Edmond rivarlies, including Edmond Santa Fe, therefore I am sure Edmond North has a little redemption and an internal “chip” on their shoulders to compete in this game especially with playing Edmond Memorial for the 3rdtime this season!
- Players to Watch
- Kamri Heath: Great dribbling skills and a sharp shooter from outside, does well attacking and finishing
- Graycen Holden: Moves very well towards the basketball, capable of hitting the outside shot and dribbles the ball well for her position
- Toni Paparohnis: Long guard, that hits the outside shot well, and uses her length for her to excel at defense
