Most people are often wowed by the offensive game with the existing moves, cool finishes and amazing passes, but there’s a very special appreciation for the other end of the floor, the defensive end. The defensive ends is one aspect of the game that sometimes does not show up on the stat sheet. The role a great defender plays in the game is just as important as someone who scores many points. Here’s a some top defenders from match-ups seen in the state semi-finals game.
Top Defenders Semi-Finals Game(Class 4A & Class 3A)
#3 Cymirah Williams, Junior, 6’1, Forward, Millwood
Long arms and long legs that are easily seen in her posture. on defense, she exposes them and does excellent at the top of the zone making it hard for teams to by-pass her length and quickness.
#25 Areah Brown, Sophomore, 6’0, Forward, Millwood,
Strong body that moves really well, physical on defense with quickness to her movements. Can runs the floor well in transition defense to guard the post. She is ready to react on defense.
#34 Syncere Harrod, Junior, 5’10, Forward, Millwood
Very hard worker in the paint, solid body frame, and works hard to keep her defenders in front, she can also guard players who like to drive from the high post
#10 Jessa Gilyard, Freshman, 5’7, Guard, Victory Christian
Although short she has long limbs which help her defend. She’s often in the right spot on defense to allow her teammates recovery time or to force the offense to react.
#15 Rachel Carlis, Junior, 5’6, Point Guard, Victory Christian
Lanky point guard with some quickness, she uses her length very well while often seen having her hands up on defense. She stays low and slides her feet to allow her body to stay in-front of her defenders. She shows her hands a lot which helps her avoid fouls.
#22 Libbi Zinn, Sophomore, Guard, 5’8, Anadarko
Solid body frame, often in the correct spot for charges. She moves her feet well and keeps her defender in front of her by often “chesting up” to have defenders change direction.
#14 Myka Perish, Junior, 5’6, Guard, Christian Heritage Academy
Does not gamble on the ball too often but gets the steals. In the correct rotation on defense to allow for steals right into her hands.
#11 Gabby Cummins, Senior, 5’5, Shooting Guard, Elgin
Always has her feet choppy and keeps defender in front of her due to her quick choppiness of feet and slides to keep her player in front of her.
#33 Kinley Gentry, Freshman, 5’9, Forward, Muldrow
Solid forward with a nice frame for an undersized post, she is always in help for her teammates not allowing for many drives in the paint, secures rebounds well.
