Heading into their junior year, I feel that a lot of these kids have a chance to open the eyes of some college coaches this summer.
Yesterday I looked at the 2022 kids who shined, and over the next two days, I will mention some of the 2021 kids who caught my eye.
Class of 2021 (part 1)
Kayla White Kayla White 5'7" | CG Brush | 2021 OH , 5-6 All-Ohio EYBL 16U: really liked this guard for All-Ohio, as the Brush HS junior was a skilled guard with a lot of tools. Not only is she a strong shooter from the perimeter, but she can elevate over her defender and score. Good quickness as she uses it to her advantage both offensively and defensively. Was impressed with her on-ball defense. Smart player, utilizes her strengths to her advantage.
Kyla Foster Kyla Foster 5'6" | CG Canton Mckinley | 2021 OH , 5-8 All-Ohio EYBL 16U: joins White as a strong backcourt for All-Ohio coach Silas William. Foster is a good rebounder and plays bigger on the boards than she is, and has a knack for utilizing her athletic frame to play in transition.
Can attack the rim and score, ro will find the open player for the easier shot. Plays with confidence.
Kylee Sheppard Kylee Sheppard 5'8" | CG Roger Bacon | 2021 State OH , 5-8 Cincinnati Angels Platinum: this kid gets better and better everytime I see her. An explosive, strong floor general who can score off the dribble, get past her defender for a score at the rim, or bury the three.
Sheppard has great handles and is a true quarterback on the floor. Dependable, great passer and makes good decisions. Great basketball IQ. Unlimited ceiling. Fun to watch when she runs in transition. Bigtime weapon on offense.
Jordan Hobbs Jordan Hobbs 5'9" | CG Springboro | 2021 State OH , 6-2 Cincinnati Angels Platinum: coaches need to take a good look at her. Can play anywhere on the floor, with the ability to bury the three or get to the rim. Good handles and is a mismatch nightmare for opposing coaches. Can take over a game, which she did at times this year. Long and athletic, can run for days and a good basketball IQ. Good active hands on defense.
Nicole Knippen Nicole Knippen 5'7" | CG Ottoville | 2021 State OH , 5-8 Dayton Lady Hoopstars: improving guard with a lot of different weapons to her game. Scrappy, hard nosed and always plays hard on the floor. Developing a steady perimeter game with a good stroke, good handles and has shown big-game ability with her high school team.
Drives and finishes well. Good quickness with endless energy. As her game grows, she will be a sought-after player.
A gym rat who will be on the radars of those who know the game.
Ariana Wiggins Ariana Wiggins 5'8" | PG Heritage Christian | 2021 State #28 Nation IN , 5-8 Spiece Nike Lady Gymrats Silver: very impressive complete guard with a lot to her game. She is a good combo guard with the ability to take over the game from the point, or move over and score from the off-guard spot.
She is very good perimeter shooter with good range. An athletic guard with excellent body control. Can penetrate and create in the paint. Good court awareness and good basketball IQ.
Emma Elia Emma Elia 5'5" | PG Struthers | 2021 State OH , 5-4 Team Cure 11th: smaller guard who showed several glimpses of solid play. She is a slasher who can get to the rim and not afraid to take the ball inside. Can get out on transition and push the ball north-south. Works hard and looks to get her team involved. Scrappy defender and solid handles.
