2022 Spring Breakout Performers
As the spring portion of the AAU season is winding down and the June is upon us, we take a look back at players who had a great spring. This is a list of five players who we thought either improved the most or started to garner more interest from their play. There are so many players around Iowa who had a great spring so it was tough to narrow it down. Here are five 2022 players who we think had a tremendous spring AAU season.

— 5’8 SG/SF — Lady Martin Brothers / Central DeWitt HS
Veach has been a big standout throughout the state this season. She’s a physical guard who has a quite a bit of skill with the ball. Veach is a lengthy guard who can slide over to the wing and be very effective. She’s a solid threat to score the ball at all three levels and finishes at the rim through strength. She’s a player who can do so much really well, and is starting to show her versatility both on and off the ball. We expect big things from her throughout her high school career and the rest of this summer.

— 5’8 SG — Play4Him / Woodward-Granger HS
Anderson is a player that a lot of people throughout the state probably have never heard of. She’s a fluid guard who plays for the Play4Him program and is having a great year. She had a fine freshman campaign but seems to be turning the corner this spring with her game. Anderson is a quick guard who can get to the basket but also pull up in the midrange. Good shooter with ability to affect the game in many ways. She has definitely raised her stock this year.

— 6’1 PF — All Iowa Attack EYBL / Urbandale HS
Gyamfi has hit another level this spring. She was dominant at the “Bring Your Best” live event, and has been really good in pretty much every event this spring. Gyamfi is showing a huge motor and willingness to compete. She has the ability to affect everyone on the floor with her passing ability and basketball IQ. Very solid defender who can bounce out onto the wing if needed. I think she continues to take steps this summer and cements herself as one of the top 2022’s in the class.
Meredith Rieker

— 5’8 SG — All Iowa Attack Nike Black / Valley HS
Rieker was someone this past year who didn’t really get a ton of floor time for Valley. She played in 23 of the 25 games this past season and is already showing improvement this spring. I love Rieker’s ability to shoot the ball from distance and she has been playing very consistently. She has a fluidness to her game that a lot of players just don’t have. She has quickly jumped onto my radar and should be a paramount piece to their success next season.

Ballard | 2022

— 5’9 SF — CY Select / Ballard HS
Reitz is a key player for Ballard and is set up for a huge year this upcoming season. Reitz has been really solid in transition this summer and has been a player who has been making things happen for CY Select. She has gotten stronger from the winter and that is helping her finish at the rim better and simply be much more aggressive. Reitz is turning a corner in her game and I expect that she’ll explode on the scene this winter. A big wing who can be dominant on both ends on the floor.
