Continue ReadingEvery team needs a defensive stopper sooner or later. A player that can shut down a top offensive threat or alter shots in the paint can change a game all by themselves. These players play a role that is often unsung and under the radar. The bigger the games get come tourney time the more important it becomes to have that girl who can get you that big stop.
- Faith Liljegren is a 5’7 2020 point guard from Collinsville. Faith is a soccer player that uses her athletic ability to be a defensive stopper on the basketball court. She set a school record for steals this past year with 134. Faith will hound the best guards in the area night in and night out in the SWC.
- Aubrey Mister is a 5’7 2020 guard from O’Fallon. Aubrey is another very athletic soccer player that is an excellent defender. She is very quick and athletic which allows her to slow down most players. Aubrey will play an even bigger role with O’fallon this year which allow more minutes on the floor to disrupt the opposition.
- Caite Knutson is a 5’11 2020 wing from Collinsville. Caite is so versatile as a defender. She can guard wings and posts as well. Caite is that stopper that can take any player on the floor and slow them down. She is smart and an extremely hard worker that will find a way every time. Caite is well known for doing the little things that win games.
- Quierra Love is a 5’4 2020 point guard from Edwardsville. Que is just so quick with her feet and hands that she causes havoc for even the best point guards. She can put pressure on the ball for 94 feet and create turnovers. Que is excellent at keeping her girl out of the lane. She plays excellent team defense and is ready to help when the situation calls for it.
- Renee Raglin is a 5’6 2022 guard from Alton. Renee is an excellent track athlete that uses her speed well on the basketball floor. She has very long arms which she uses to get her hands on many passes. Renee pressures the ball all over the court. She is excellent at reading passing lanes to get steals that creates fast break opportunities.
- Maria Smith is a 5’8 2020 forward from Edwardsville. Maria is another multi sport D1 athlete that uses her abilities on the basketball court. She is a verbal commit to play softball at Southern Miss. Maria is strong and very quick. She is often undersized defending in the post but her ability to work around the offense and not get pinned is exceptional. She is quick enough and smart enough to guard any position on the floor. Maria is that kid that every coach wants on their team.
They say that defense wins championships. I believe that is true. These are the girls in the SWC that are the best of the best at their craft. The point guards in this conference will be at each other on both ends of the floor. I can’t wait to watch it.
