This event had a ton of talent from the Tampa Bay and Orlando area’s, and even a good amount that came from further distances. Everyone involved in this event did an amazing job which was easy to spot from how organized everything was from the start at this beautiful location. At least twenty-five colleges and universities were in attendance to watch some of these bigs perform:
D’Mya Ferguson ’20 (6’0) from Clearwater was the best outside shooter of the day from the post players. She is a fierce competitor, and finished strong at the hoop even through traffic. D’Mya was crafty around the rim, and plays a physical style that helps her against any taller opponents.
Jada Garbutt ’20 (6’2) from Haines City is a lengthy, athletic post who rebounded the best out of any post players during the showcase. Her offensive game keeps improving, and she’s got a great build for the next level. Jada has a chance to have a huge senior campaign.
Lauren Shepherd ’20 (6’5) from Bell is a tremendous shot blocker as she has all of the length in the world. She plays hard and rebounds the ball well with a good touch on the offensive end. Lauren continues to improve on finishing around the rim too. She has massive potential if she continues to put the work in.
Mya Lamar ’21 (6’4) from Strawberry Crest showed off her great hands on the block at the showcase. She’s incredibly coordinated at her height, and has terrific strength to boot. Mya has nice touch on her shot with some solid post moves, and could be a dominant force as an upperclassman this year. If she adds another weapon by finishing against other bigs with that left hand, watch out.
Lakada Bryant ’21 (6’1) from West Orange always seemed to know where to be and when to be there. She finished strong around the rim with some impressive post moves after she made sure to get position on her opponent. Lakada crashed the boards and was a great asset to the guards on her team. She’s a great teammate and communicator with a ton of upside.
Madison Vaira ’21 (6’2) from Newsome has incredible length and used that frame to grab a bunch of offensive/defensive boards. She scores nicely around the rim, but she can step out and hit a jumper as well. Madison made some sharp cuts off of the ball that gave her some clean looks, and she wasn’t afraid to call for the ball when she got open.
Olivia Fuller ’23 (5’9) from Clearwater was the only Freshman at the event, but she certainly held her own. She always gives 110% and will attack the paint no matter who the opponent is. Liv is a strong finisher who has the handles, vision, and passing ability of a guard.
