It was a good warmup for a lot of these teams as the start of the high school regular season is just around the corner.
I arrived at the event around mid-afternoon, and here’s a look at some more of the top talent that I saw during the evening.
1. Asia Avinger – Rosary Academy 2020
A San Diego State commit, Avinger is a good combo guard. She’s strong and can easily get into the lane and to the rim. Very quick off the dribble. She has good body control and is able to finish plays over defenders as well as draw contact and get to the free-throw line. She’s a good shooter from the outside. She can act as a playmaker as well and is able to find a good balance between scoring and setting up her teammates.
2. Raya Smith – ML King 2020
What stands out the most about Smith is her tenacity on the defensive end of the court. King plays great defense as a whole, and Smith is a big quarterback of that. She has good hands defensively on the perimeter and she moves her feet well. Harasses opposing guards into tough shots. Offensively, she’s a good shooter from three and she has a nice pull-up jumper. Runs the break well as the ball-handler.
3. Allie Carreon – Christian 2020
Carreon is a wing, but she really acts as the team’s primary playmaker. She is the team’s primary facilitator in the half-court. She has very good court vision in transition and throws solid outlet passes to teammates breaking down court. Very good at keeping the ball moving and making sure the offense doesn’t stagnate. When it comes to scoring, she is good off the dribble and has strong drives to the rim.
4. Elodie Lalotte – Orangewood Academy 2020
A Boise State commit, Lalotte is a very talented inside player. She establishes position well in the paint and seals off her defender well when making a move. Very strong inside and very decisive; she doesn’t hesitate when making a post move. She can also operate from the elbows and put the ball on the floor at times when going to the rim. Good rebounder who should be a double-double player this season.
5. Rayah Marshall – Lynwood 2021
Marshall is matchup nightmare for opposing teams. She has the size to play like a big, but she’s got the mobility of a guard on the perimeter too. She can handle the ball and create shots for herself on the wing. She can shoot off the dribble or put the ball on the floor and go straight to the rim. She can operate in the post as well. She has good post footwork and she uses her length and size to shoot over defenders. Poised to have a very strong season.
