I chatted with head coach Luke Swedberg whose team was 13-12 last year overall and was 2nd in the Wright County Conference standings
Trojans to Watch
Emily Russo, Senior (2020), Forward, Committed to Minnesota-Mankato
Russo will be the main point of attack for the Trojans. She brings “size, strength, and athleticism,” Coach Swedberg said about Emily’s game. She averaged a double-double last year with 16 points and 10 rebounds per game so look for her inside presence to be key. Russo is also a great shot blocker. Will be a potential POY candidate in the Wright County Conference.
Amanda Giesen, Senior (2020), Forward
Giesen will be another key forward in the frontcourt of the Trojans. Giesen also has a nice three-point shot that she’s not afraid to take when needed. Giesen also has a great leaping ability that she gets from the volleyball court. Giesen is currently getting some D-3 interest at this time and should have a great year for the Trojans.
Bethany Vasecka, Senior (2020), Guard
Vasecka has great athleticism and can be a dangerous matchup for defenses on the perimeter. She will be the leader at the guard position for the Trojans this year. Bethany is one of the 3 guards with varsity experience, so expect her to lead this good pack of guards for the Trojans. Vasecka has been getting some D-3 interest as well from schools around Minnesota.
Sarah Berg, Senior (2020), Guard
Berg has worked on her all-around game and comes back as one of the team’s best defenders from last year. Expect her to get quality minutes alongside side the next player to watch for the Trojans
Kate Seymour, Senior (2020), Guard
Seymour is another strong shooter for this Trojans team and will be beneficial from the outside perimeter. Also, she will be a clutch defender for this senior-led Trojans lineup.
Team Goals for the Trojans
The team goals for New Prague this year are to “be the best version of us we can be”, which is a goal they hope to attain by the end of the year, Coach Swedberg told me. The Trojans have continued to work on what has made them successful in the past and improve on “the aspects” of what hasn’t gone well in the past.
Improving on Last Year’s Trojans
The biggest thing Coach Swedberg said his team can improve on last year in their offensive efficiency. “Our defense was able to keep us in a lot of games when our offense struggled,” he told PGH Minnesota. The offensive efficiency will be key to improve from last year.
The Wright County Conference Foes for the Trojans
The biggest foes New Prague will go against in the Wright Conference will be Holy Family, Waconia, Hutchinson, Delano and Orono all look can be strong “every given night” Coach Swedberg told PGH Minnesota in his closing statement.
Thanks to New Prague and Head Coach Luke Swedberg for the report! Next, we will head north into Minneapolis for our next 5th team preview of the preseason.
