With over half the team graduating, the door has been left open for new faces and young players to step into the spotlight on one of the state’s most consistently successful programs in recent years. It’s looking very much like Audra Vine (2022) is going to be one of those young talents who takes a big step forward this winter in terms of talent, production and the opportunity to be featured more with the Hawks.
“Her potential is through the roof,” Horizon head coach Dan Doehler said. “She plays more of a point guard for us but she also comes off some screens and shoots the ball really well. She’s definitely going to be a college prospect.”
As a freshman last season, Vine was the highest scoring non-senior on the Hawks. The 5-foot-3 guard made the most of the limited minutes available to her by averaging 5.2 points and grabbing just over a rebound per game. That may not seem like a ton, but it’s noteworthy for a freshman playing behind a number of seniors and splitting time in the backcourt with talented 2020 teammate Olivia Waufle to carve out that type of role while playing in all 26 of the Hawks’ games.
Though she plays primarily point guard for the Hawks, Vine is most likely to make her mark as a shooter this winter.
In 2018-19, Vine shot 36 percent (42 for 116) from the field and 39 percent (33 for 84) from 3-point range. She scored double figures in five games, including a career-high 17 points against Monarch on Jan. 24. She was 4 for 6 from long range in that game, and also went 5 for 7 on 3-point attempts against Boulder on Feb. 5.
Vine plays with Colorado Elite during the grassroots season.
