What can I say about 6’2 Paetynn Gray (Cal State Northridge) other than she will be moving up the rankings after continuously showing me progression, that 3 pointer was smoking. How about Cheyanne Bonilla (El Paso Eastlake) who opened up the event with 5 three pointers and 25 points and closed it with a Consolation title and 38 points, including 6 three-pointers, over 20 for the event and she’s UNSIGNED but not for long. I’ll come back to those two on the Top Performers but here are some other standouts from outside the Houston area
Vanessa HerreraTajanna White-6’1 P (Cedar Ridge Raiders) when I talk about seizing the opportunity, she certainly did as she was a force to be reckoned with inside the paint. She’s powerful on both ends and rebounds on both ends but watching her defend was as equally important as watching her finish with contact. She’s only a junior, I hadn’t really noticed her but my eyes are wide open as her upside is scary
Vanessa Herrera-5’6 G (El Paso Eastlake Falcons) those crisp passes on the money from the talented junior had me switching from my camera to The Gram numerous times but her poise and being under control as well as watching her take defenders off the dribble and finishing acrobatically was nice but that outside shot was clicking and how do they say it, it was icing on the cake
Madison FoleyArrianna Faulks-5’8 G (Killeen Elison Eagles) got a different look on her game than with Austin Elite club team with whom she has shown me time and time again that she can just take a game over offensively but on her high school squad, her versatility stood out as she became more of a facilitator that also got hers “in the flow”. Make no mistake, the UNSIGNED guard plays the passing and defends with the best of them
Madison Foley-F (San Angelo Central Bobcats) good body and plays multiple positions, she understands how to score multiple ways. You want it off the dribble. she takes defenders with ease and can finish strongly after contact and that’s a plus but what’s even more intriguing is watching her not only create her shot, under pressure and nail the midrange consistently
Kieundria DorseyKieundria Dorsey-G (San Antonio Wagner Thunderbirds) she plays for Texas legend. Annissa Hastings, whose daughter will be one as well and watching the talented seniors’ aggressiveness on both ends had me wanting to yell THROWBACK but I held back, she didn’t. That explosive first step creates many problems and keeps defenses guessing as she also sees the floor quite well
