Monday: Aplington-Parkersburg (0-0) vs. BCLUW (2-0) @ 6:15PM
One of the top games on Monday pits two of the top 2A teams against one another. Aplington-Parkersburg is looking to start their season on a high note and BCLUW is going to look to prove that they are legit. BCLUW has gotten off to a quick 2-0 start, but this would be a huge win for them.
Tuesday: Bettendorf (2-0) @ Davenport Assumption (2-0) @ 6:00PM
Both of these teams have gotten off to similar 2-0 starts and are looking to add a big win to their resume. The Bettendorf win over Linn-Mar and the Assumption win over Xavier don’t look particularly good right now but later in the year they likely will. Whoever wins this one could set the stage for a great year.
Tuesday: Ames (0-1) @ Mason City (3-0) @ 6:15PM
Both of these results by these teams may have surprised some early in the year. Not many saw Ames losing to Waukee by 19 in their opener and I’m sure after losing Megan Meyer to graduation, not many people would have thought that Mason City would start 3-0. This game will be a good sign of what’s to come for these two squads.
Tuesday: Bishop Heelan (0-0) vs. Lewis Central (1-0) @ 7:00PM
A Tuesday night matchup between two of the strongest 3A programs in the state is on tap for Tuesday night. Bishop Heelan opens their season as one of the top teams in 3A after dropping down from 4A and Lewis Central is as strong this year on paper as they have been in years. It’s a big week for Lewis Central as they have this game and then Red Oak on Saturday.
Tuesday: Davenport North (1-0) vs. North Scott (2-0) @ 7:30PM
Davenport North had a big win over Cedar Rapids Washington in their season opener and now take on a strong team as they head to North Scott. North Scott sits at 2-0 after wins over Xavier and Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Davenport North likely has the only singular player in the state that can stop Grace Boffeli so this game will be very interesting to watch.
Thursday: Center Point-Urbana (0-0) vs. Waverly-Shell Rock (0-1) @ 6:00PM
Defending 3A state champ Center Point-Urbana gets their season underway at Waverly-Shell Rock in a game that is sure to be very good. Waverly-Shell Rock lost their first contest but hope to gain some momentum with a huge win. This will be a really good game to see two of the top players in the state.
Friday: Gilbert (1-1) vs. North Polk (0-2) @ 6:00PM
Both of these teams are looking to regroup and get back on track. After a sloppy win to start the year against Ballard, Gilbert fell to Iowa City West. North Polk has not looked good to start the year and fell to Johnston and took a big loss to Dallas Center-Grimes. Whoever wins this one will be glad they did.
Friday: Iowa City West (1-0) vs. Prairie (1-0) @ 7:30PM
Iowa City West looked better in their first game of the year than many expected and got a very solid win over Gilbert. Prairie struggled a little in their game with Muscatine but came out on top. This is a big early-season contest between two teams who are looking to prove themselves to the doubters.
Saturday: Dallas Center-Grimes (2-0) @ Des Moines Christian (2-0) @ 6:00PM
This might be the top game of the week as both of these teams have looked good in the early going. Dallas Center-Grimes has had two really nice wins and Des Moines Christian had a tough win over Creston and an easier win against Grinnell. Both of these teams will be in it till the end this year so seeing them matchup early will be fun.
Saturday: Glenwood (1-0) vs. Carroll (1-0) @ 6:00PM
Glenwood might be the surprise of 3A this year as they are very solid. This game is going to be one where they can prove themselves against a solid 4A program. Carroll is going to have to play better offensively after escaping with a win against Webster City. This is going to be a statement win for either team.
