I had the chance to watch two of the games at the Lanier site which featured 6 teams with a combined record of 34-19 coming into the event. With that many wins there were sure to be some good players.
Victoria Dames | 5’11 | W | 2020 | Grayson | #30
This was my second opportunity to see Dames, #30 in our class rankings, in action and she was even more aggressive than the first time I saw her. She has length and size to play and defend multiple positions. Her versatility is an asset. She has a very smooth game that is fun to watch. She was able to create her own shots in the half-court and come up with steals that lead to quick transition baskets. She also showed her passing ability with a few assists. Her stock is rising.
Viti in her GHSA 2019 championship game.Sara Viti | 5’9 | G | 2021 | Buford
Viti is a basketball player in every sense. She has a very good looking three-point shot going 3 for 4 during her game. She also uses her big frame to finish tough layups at the rim. She is a very vocal leader who stands out on defense. She defends every possession with grit and toughness. Even when sitting the entire 4th quarter she was able to finish with 18 points. Look for her name to be added to our next set of rankings. She made an impact on the game in every way. She is on the 2021 watchlist.
Aaliyah Hunt | 6’1 | C | 2023 | Peachtree Ridge
I love a post player that is physical and aggressive and although just a freshman, you could see this in Hunt. She has the size and she makes a point to use it to her advantage. She has a good touch around the rim even when battling against another post with a similar size. She fights for position and is confident in calling for the ball. She has a good presence in the paint and the potential to be an advanced rim protector.
Grace calls for the ball in the paint.Malia Grace | 6’2 | C | 2020 |Grayson | #41
Our #41 ranked senior is a big and physical player that likes to play in the paint. The Alabama State commit showcased her ability to rebound outside of her area and then make pinpoint outlet passes to her guards was impressive. She defended well in the painted area. She finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Alexis Figures | 5’8 | G | 2020 | Mill Creek
The senior guard does a lot for her squad. Matchup against a tough Buford team at the showcase, Figures showed her competitive edge. At times she was left to single-handedly break the press using her speed and ball-handling. She can get to the rim with a quick first step and draw fouls with her aggressive attacks.
