Valley Vista defeats Hamilton on the Road

Wow! That’s all I can say! Tonight was the much anticipated match up between Hamilton and Valley Vista. These two teams are the top 2 teams in 6A, in our PGH AZ Rankings. This game definitely delivered all of the hype that was promised! This game is a early game of the year candidate for sure, as the game was ultra competitive and displayed some of the top talent and teams in state. The entire game was close, within single digits virtually the entire game. Leading the way for the Monsoon was 2021 6’1 F <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/marisa-davis-jones/">Marisa Davis-Jones</a>. MDJ recently moved up to the #1 spot in our 2021 Player Rankings and boy did she live up to that title! MDJ had 25 points and 8 rebounds. She shut down Hamilton star guard, <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/victoria-davis/">Victoria Davis</a>, and led her team in points. MDJ is super long and athletic. Her wingspan and speed make her a nightmare on defense and her offensive game is coming along very quickly. Hamilton simply had no answer for her as she got to the basket seemingly at will. 2022 5’10 G <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/jennah-isai/">Jennah Isai</a> also had a terrific game. Isai made up for 19 points and drew a ton of fouls in the process, practically living at the free throw line. I felt that this really frustrated and threw the Hamilton players out of their rhythm as the game was constantly stopping to shoot FT’s and she got some of their key players in foul trouble. Leading the way for the Huskies was 2021 5’11 F <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/player/samara-curry/">Samara Curry</a> and 2021 5’5 G Graciela Roybal. Curry did some nice things on both the offensive and defensive end. She is really coming along offensively, as she looks more aggressive every time I see her play. The key play for the Huskies tonight was by far Graciela Roybal. Roybal shined tonight and proved that she is one of the top 2021 players in the state and one of the best shooters as well. Roybal knocked down 5 3-point shots and what impressed me even more was the 3 charges she drew. Roybal is a very smart player and is great in catch and shoot situations. She is definitely a player to watch out for. Overall, it was an amazing game and I am glad that I made it out for it.
