CIF State Playoffs Division 1
March 3, 2020
Orangewood Academy proved to be too strong for Bonita Vista from the jump ball, Sydney Gandy was able to shoot whatever shot she wanted on the floor and Kristal Caldwell knocked down a pair of threes after getting hurt in the first quarter. The bright spot for Bonita was Julia Cosalan knocking down a pair of threes in the second quarter to help her team stay close. Orangewood continued in the third quarter by getting to the free throw line, Elodie LaLotte got into the mix with some nice layups in the paint. Sylena Peterson also put in some solid work for her team as well throughout the game. The final score was 66-59. The following players stood out to us by their performance:

2020, 5’3, PG, Sydney Gandy – Sydney is an assassin on the floor and most cannot deal with her one-on-one, so your best bet is to double her and keep the ball out of her hands. She knocked down four three pointers in this game and she did not hesitate to shoot when she was open or had a smaller or taller player in front of her. Her handles are good, she can score from all three levels on the floor and a threat to score in double digits every night. She ended the game with 27 points.
2020, 6’3, PF, Elodie LaLotte – Elodie was in full form tonite, she finished in the paint of screens, putbacks and ran the floor to get easy layups. She was a load for Bonita tonite, she kept the defense busy all night with her active rebounding skills and tenacious attitude in the paint. She blocked shots on the perimeter and in the paint and terrorized the defense at each end of the floor. She ended the game with 15 points on the night.
2022, 5’1, PG, Kristal Caldwell – Kristal is a firecracker, she is quick, she is strong, she is fearless on the floor and most cannot stay in front of her with the ball in her hands. She is a lefty, so she has a nice stroke from outside, she knocked down two three pointers in this game and got to the rim and finish thru contact. She ended the game with 12 points.
Bonita Vista Performers:
2021, 5’7, PG, Sylena Peterson – Sylena gave her best performance tonite, she ran the offense, she scored and she distributed for her team. She got to the rim, shot the three ball and hit a few floaters in this game which kept her fighting for her team to try and win the game. Her handle is great, she can score from all three levels and she is a good defender on and off the ball. She ended the game with 20 points.
2021, 5’7, SG, Julia Cosalan – Julia is that shooter you cannot leave open for a shot at anytime, because she will knock it down. She can handle the ball with consistency, she can shoot the three pointer and is working on her get to the rim game. She can make shots and she made six three pointers in this game and most of them were from about 23 feet out, she has range for sure. She ended the game with 20 points as well.
