Continue ReadingThe second round of the playoffs is officially in the books. Now that the dust has settled, it is time to see what is in store for the next round. Here is a preview of what is to come in the Jenny Coalson and Tracy Hill brackets:
Hannah Burg#4 Berthoud (22-2, 14-2 Tri-Valley) vs. #13 Falcon (17-7, 10-4 Pikes Peak)
Senior Emily Cavey (guard/forward) is coming off of a postseason double-double performance, finishing round two with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Berthoud Spartans. Teammate Breanna Fowler (junior guard) tallied 18 points, seven steals, and six rebounds in that second-round matchup. Falcon’s Hannah Burg (junior guard) finished Saturday’s matchup with an impressive 29 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Sophomore guard Billie Fiore racked up 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists in that same contest.

Other Falcon names to know: Kayla Harkema, Kilee Wood, Trinity Grant
Anna Hefner#5 Erie (22-2, 14-2 Tri-Valley) vs #12 Glenwood Springs (21-3, 12-0 Western Slope)
Erie is a team that possesses a roster that contains nothing but standouts. Junior center Anna Hefner is coming off of a great performance, totaling 19 points while shooting eight for 10 from the field and making all three of her free-throw attempts. Sophomore guards Grace Moyers and Edie Morrow finished with a combined 21 points, five assists, and five steals, helping to prove that stopping them all is a challenging task. The Demons have standouts of their own. Junior Graci Dietrich (forward) tallied nine points and secured 13 of her teams 39 total rebounds during Saturday’s second-round game. Senior guard Natalya Taylor finished with 13 points, four steals, and three rebounds.

Other Glenwood Springs names to know: Qwynn Massie, Michelle Marshall, Kenzie Winder
#2 Green Mountain (22-2, 12-0 Jeffco) vs. #14 Durango (15-9, 5-3 Southwestern)
The Green Mountain Rams are heading into this game following a win where sophomore forward Avery Oaster posted 15 points and seven rebounds. Courtney Hank (junior) and Maddie Phillips (senior) finished with a combined 24 points, 14 rebounds, and four steals in the postseason so far. Freshman Mason Rowland in the leading scorer for Durango, arriving at the postseason with a total of 178 points to go along with her team-high 109 rebounds. Durango has a roster that consists of all but two upperclassmen, while Green Mountain is a team with a lot of young talent. Keep an eye on this match.

Sydnee Durtsche#6 Thompson Valley (23-1, 14-0 Northern) vs. #11 Sierra (19-4, 14-1 Colorado Springs Metro)
Thompson Valley will be looking to senior Sydnee Durtsche to have a repeat of her double-double performance on Saturday. Durtsche finished the second-round with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Fellow senior Samantha McCrimmon tallied 16 points and five rebounds, bringing her season total to 195 points and 113 rebounds. Sierra’s senior standout, D’nae Wilson, could easily be the difference-maker in this match. Wilson is coming off of a performance that ended with her totaling 22 points, five steals, and three assists. With senior teammates Aaria Lacour (17 pts, 10 reb, five stl) and Annalisa Mileto (15 pts, 10 reb, four stl) each finishing round two with double-doubles, the outcome of the third round could easily be considered a toss-up.
