GAME 1: ARCADIA VS PLATEVILLE
Platteville defeded Arcadia in the first round of the State tournament on Thursday. Below, are a list of players that stood out in the victory.
Sami Martin Sami Martin 6'2" | PF Platteville | 2020 State WI | 6’2 F | Senior
The forward scored a game high 17 points in the win. She uses her size so well inside and has the ability to create her own space in any situation. She takes good shots and has a great finish at the rim. She shot 5-9 from the floor. Martin was consistent down the stretch, helping lead her team in the final minutes. She went 7-8 from the free throw line. A strong post player, Martin also added 9 rebounds for her team. Martin finished with 3 steals for Platteville. Martin is committed to Bradley University.
Josie Nies | 5’9 G | Senior
Nies saw a lot of minutes during Thursday’s match-up. She’s a key role player for her team and during all things good, Nies was there. She dove for loose balls, caused multiple turnovers and found her teammates in transition. She finished with 8 points and 4 assists.
Becca Hoyer | 5’9 F | Senior
She had a big game and came up clutch down the stretch for her team. With a lot of pressure on Martin, Hoyer saw a lot of action offensively. She cuts off of her teammates well and opens up with authority after setting screens. She finished with 11 points in the win and went 3-3 from the free throw line.
Izzy Carroll | 5’11 PF | Senior
Adding to the size inside the is Carroll who is a powerful presence inside the lane. She plays well in the block while having a great eye for the ball coming off the glass. She grabbed 8 rebounds during the match-up. She does a great job of keeping the ball high on offensive rebounds and finishing. Carroll finished with 8 points in the win.
GAME 2: LAKE MILLS VS WRIGHTSTOWN
Wrightstown defeated Lake Mills in a 62-54 victory. Wrightstown competed without Bridget Froehlke Bridget Froehlke 5'8" | CG Wrightstown | 2020 State WI who tore her ACL in practice, she was averaging 19.7 points per game.
Leah Lemke | 5’7 PG | Sophomore
Leading all scorers was Lemke this game. She had 24 points in the win. Lemke played the entire game and finished with 8 rebounds for Wrightstown. She’s scrappy and quick. She attacks the basket hard and is relentless on defense. She was the facilitator the entire game, making up for the loss of Froehlke.
Jordan Vickman | 6’2 PF | Freshman
The freshman entered the game averaging 5.4 points and 4.8 rebounds. She stepped up big time during the match-up and held her own inside. She uses her body well and keeps the ball high when finishing off rebounds. She will take the outside shot given an open opportunity. She finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Meghan Riha | 5’8 G | Senior
The guard has been a key role player this season. Playing alongside two of the state’s best guards, Riha has found ways to show off her talent. Coming into the match-up, she averaged 6.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She has an explosive attack to the basket and finds herself with a lot of points in transition. She finished with 11 points for Wrightstown. She is committed to Ripon College.
Ella Diny Ella Diny 5'8" | CG Wrightstown | 2020 State WI | 5’9 G | Senior
The leading scorer for Wrightstown was held to 10 points during the state tournament. However, she made up for it in all the little things she did right. She’s super dynamic and ultra-athletic. She runs the floor and finds her open teammates well. An effective mid range shooter and inside finisher that makes her hard to defend. She’s oversized for a guard and uses her body to get position over smaller guards. She finished with 10 rebounds during the victory.
