Below is a list of impact players who excelled on the defensive end this season. All of these junior standouts were in the top rebounders for their conference.
Matyson Wilke Matyson Wilke 5'10" | CG Beaver Dam | 2021 State #57 Nation WI | Beaver Dam | 5’10 G
The junior standout holds Division I offers from all over the country. She is incredibly gifted on both ends of the floor. She scores the ball with ease, creating space for herself to get her shot off. She’s fast and long, helping her score over smaller defenders. The guard led her Badger- North conference this season in rebounding. Averaging 8 per game, Wilke was just relentless on the glass. She has a great eye for the ball and does really well chasing down long rebounds. Wilke grabbed 14 boards in a win over Germantown. She also had her season-high 14 again in the season vs Mount Horeb.
Alexa Thomson Alexa Thomson 5'8" | CG West De Pere | 2021 State WI | West De Pere | 5’9 F
The Player of the Year in the Bay conference made her presence known on both ends of the court. She’s an impressive scorer with versatility playing inside and out. She’s a primarily inside scorer but really came into her own on the three point line this season. Thomson is certainly one of the better offensive rebounding players I’ve watched. She’s athletic and uses her body well to grab boards. The forward averaged 9 rebounds per game this season in a tough Bay conference. Thomson put up some big numbers for boards this season. In a win over New London she grabbed a season-high 20 boards. In another matchup Xavier, Thomson had 13 rebounds.
Evelyn Walker | Madison La Follette | 6’0 F
Walker really came into her own this season and will absolutely be an impact player for La Follette next year. She has a great feel for the game. She’s a strong forward who isn’t shy going against contact. A completely inside scorer, Walker has been developing her inside game as well. This season she averaged 8.2 points per game. She was a consistent scorer for her team and certainly can be trusted scoring the basketball. However, Walker is a standout defender. She is second in the Big Eight conference in rebounding, falling just short of First Team selection Sitori Tanin Sitori Tanin 6'2" | PF Middelton | 2020 State WI . Walker averaged 10.1 rebounds per game. In a game against Madison East, the junior grabbed a season-high 19 boards.
Vivian Guerrero | Lake Mills | 6’1 F
Guerrero is an impressive rebounder for her team. She is second in rebounding in the Capitol- North conference. The junior averaged 9.1 rebounds per game. She uses her body well to fight for position and excels at offensive rebounding. Many of her points on the offensive end come from her powerful boards. She was consistent this season for Lake Mills, having multiple games in the double figures. Guerrero grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds in a victory over Whitewater. In another game against Columbus, Guerrero grabbed 12 boards in the win.
Alyssa Nimz | Catholic Memorial | 6’0 G
The second-team all Classic Eight selection this season will be an impact rebounder during her senior campaign. Proving she can use her body to box out and her quickness to grab boards, Nimz is the go-to rebounder for Catholic Memorial. Nimz averaged 11.8 rebounds per game, leading the Classic Eight. The junior is an impact player on both ends of the floor. She also averaged 18.6 points per game. A fierce rebounder with strength under the hoop, Nimz grabbed a season-high 17 boards against Watertown.
