How D1 Could Have Played Out – The Regional Championships

The MHSAA has officially called high school winter and spring sports due to the health issues that the world is currently facing. Now that the basketball games are officially over, I’ll look at what could have been if the playoffs had been able to be finished. The Division 1 field was talented and extremely deep this season. Plenty of teams have legitimate arguments as to why they had a realistic shot at the title this season. I’ll take a look at what I think would have happened in the regional championships. After that, be on the lookout for articles covering the hypothetical quarterfinals, semifinals and the championship games. <h4>Bloomfield Hills Marian vs. Detroit Renaissance</h4> Prediction:  Detroit Renaissance Detroit Renaissance is too dangerous in the open floor and has too many lockdown defenders. They advance another step farther. Most Valuable Player:  <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="23751" first="Cameron" last="Grant"] (2020, PF, Macomb Dakota)</strong> <h4>East Grand Rapids vs. Hudsonville</h4> Prediction:  East Grand Rapids I don’t even like picking this game. It’s really a true coin flip that either team can win on any given night. I’ll go with superstar [player_tooltip player_id="4142" first="Jillian" last="Brown"] and company. Most Valuable Player:  <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="4142" first="Jillian" last="Brown"] (2021, CG, East Grand Rapids)</strong> <h4>Holt vs. East Lansing</h4> Prediction:  East Lansing East Lansing’s outstanding perimeter defense will be key against a Holt backcourt that is scorching opponents in the playoffs. Nobody had found an answer for her and her veteran teammates. They power their way to the next round. They have shooters and playmakers all over the floor.
