Who won league in ’19-20?
St. Mary’s has won state back to back, on the way to winning 3 in a row. They won their league with an undefeated record, and overall 24-1 overall. The pirates are a team that can score the ball in a variety of ways averaging 74.9 points per game. The only lost that St. Mary’s had was against Cherry Creek one of the top teams in state. They lost 66-44, a deficit that the team has not experienced throughout the season. The Pirates are known for beating their opponents by 30 or more points.
St. Mary’s scored 80 or more points 9 times this past season, and scoring 100 midway through the season. The pirates won league champs finishing on top of Manitou Springs. Manitou Springs a team that is tough in league finished the season 9-1 in league, and 19-5 overall.
Five players that shinned
Josephine Howery Josephine Howery 5'9" | PG St. Mary's | 2020 State CO (St. Mary’s)
Howery can score in a variety of ways and can create her own shot off the dribble. She finished sixth in Colorado in scoring, and first in her league. She averaged 21.2 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, 4.6 assist per game, and 4.1 steals per game. Howery loves to compete, and is efficient from the floor shooting 211-420 (50 percent) form the field. She shows the ability to knock down shots from the outside 44-117 (38 percent). She scored a total of 531 points this past season joining the 1,000 point club with 1,672 in her career.
Mady McFee (Buena Vista)
Standing at 5-foot-10 McFee does a great job establishing herself inside the paint. She averaged 17.0 points per game, and 390 throughout the season. McFee can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim with good touch. She scored a season high 28 points midway through the season helping her team get the win over Ellicott 49-41. McFee has great footwork, anticipates passes well getting her hands on a lot of steals.
Alexis Garcia Alexis Garcia 5'7" | CG Vanguard | 2021 State CO (The Vanguard)
Garcia a player that can stretch the floor with her ability to knocked down open shots behind the arc. She can also create scoring opportunities for herself, and for teammates. Garcia averaged 13.7 points per game leading her team to a 20-5 record. She also shows the ability to attack the rim finishing with great touch. She averaged 3.9 rebounds per game, 3.8 steals per game, and 2.1 assist per game. As a junior Garcia joined the 1,000 point club by the end of season, and scoring a season high in points twice in the season with 30.
Seneca Hackley Seneca Hackley 5'9" | SG St. Mary's | 2020 State CO (St. Mary’s)
Hackley another one of St. Mary’s top scorers can shoot the ball among the best of them showing the ability to knocked down 3’s from anywhere on the floor. She shows the ability to attack the rim relentlessly and finish through contact. Hackley averaged 16.2 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, 3.1 assist per game, and 4.0 steals per game. She loves to get her teammates involved, has a high IQ for the game, and a good defender taking on teams best player. Hackley put up a season high with 27 points, and joined the 1,000 point club with 1,183 in her career.
Julia Holden (Trinadad)
Standing at 5-foot-9 Holden leads her team in points per game and rebounds per game. Holden averaged 13.1 points per game, and 7.5 rebounds per game. She scored a season high in points with 22 earlier in the season, and continued to help her team put up points. Holden is a good rebounder guard with 4 double-doubles throughout her senior season.
