Class 1A – Region 1: 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges

As we look for other ways to cover prospects we thought it would be beneficial to cover players in a way that allows us to cover those we don’t write much about. We will be using the region’s from last season as they were constructed. Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible. We will be writing a series of four stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges. We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should elevate their stock this upcoming high school season. <hr /> <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="165068" first="Cassie" last="Jones"] - 5’5 PG - Siouxland Christian</strong> Jones is a very solid point guard who scored 18.2 points a game last year. She could definitely find a spot at the next level where she can play but she’ll need to be a little more careful with the ball. Jones had 6.0 turnovers a game this past year while dishing off 4.8 assists. She’s a good scoring guard but just needs to cut down on turnovers. <strong>Leah Neverman - 6’ PF - St. Edmond</strong> Neverman is a big presence in the post for St. Edmond and her size along with rebounding ability can stick at the next level. She scored 9.1 points a game last year and pulled down 9.4 rebounds a game last season. I think that she is going to be able to improve this summer and fall enough to give herself the confidence to play at the next level. <strong>Mackensie Post - 5’5 PG - George-Little Rock</strong> Post scored 14.7 points a game last year and shot 32 percent from the floor. She is a quick guard who can really set the pace but like Jones, she will need to cut down on her turnovers this upcoming season. Post will find a home on a college roster somewhere because of her ability to score the ball at a high level. <strong>McKenna Henrich - 5’6 PG - Akron-Westfield</strong> Henrich plays more of an off-ball role at Akron-Westfield but can seemingly slide between both guard spots with ease. She is a quick guard and is best at setting up her teammates for scoring opportunities. She doesn’t shoot the ball a lot but can do so if she wanted. Henrich should start to see some college interest float her way. <strong>Brittany Johnson - 5’9 PF - Remsen St. Mary’s</strong> Johnson was Remsen St. Mary’s best player on both ends of the floor this past year. She was able to score 7.6 points a game while also grabbing 8.1 points a game. She shot the ball at a 38 percent clip and only turned the ball over three times a game. I can see Johnson nabbing some small college interest if she becomes more confident in her game this season.
