Continue ReadingThe Spring travel season has been shut down as we know and more and more signs are pointing to the Summer being shut down as far as D1 viewing periods. There is still a strong chance for events sometime in July and August, but there is no guarantee for college coaches being allowed to be out and about. That being said, the sense of urgency to commit has gone way up for players all around the country and the trend has also started in the Northwest. Multiple 2021’s from Washington have recently committed, as well as prospects from Idaho and Montana.
Player: Emily Mellema Emily Mellema 5'8" | PG Lynden Christian | 2021 State WA
High school: Lynden Christian
Club: NW Blazers
Commitment: Wyoming
2021 5’8 PG Emily Mellema Emily Mellema 5'8" | PG Lynden Christian | 2021 State WA has committed to Wyoming of the Mountain West Conference. Mellema is a proven winner at the high school level and now has two 1A state championship rings to her collection with a shot at winning one more in her senior season. She is a high IQ basketball player with the ability to run her team’s half court offense, but also control the tempo of the game versus full court pressure. Mellema will also be able to knock down the outside shot for Wyoming and she has another year of high school to continue to get stronger.
Player: Chenoa Louie Chenoa Louie 6'0" | PF Royal City | 2021 State WA
High School: Royal City
Club: NW Blazers
Commitment: Saint Martin’s
2021 6’0 PF Chenoa Louie Chenoa Louie 6'0" | PF Royal City | 2021 State WA has committed to Division 2 Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington. A 6’0 bruiser that is truly tough as nails. Louie is a strong rebounder, sets good screens and hustles on the court. The part of her game that shouldn’t be overlooked is her skill set. She can hit the outside shot, attack from the wing and handle the ball decently. She will be a very good player in the GNAC for Head Coach Christy Martin.
Player: Sydney Dethman
High School: Froid Lake (MT)
Club: NW Blazers
Commitment: Fresno State
2021 6’3 SF Sydney Dethman has committed to Fresno State of the Mountain West Conference. A travel ball teammate to Mellema, Dethman will be able to face off against her club teammate in the Mountain West Conference for years to come. Dethman is a long and rangy wing with some inside-out ability, but plays more of a skill game than a throwback post game. She is a good shot blocker, can attack from the wing and she runs the floor like a deer.
Player: Brooklyn Rewers
High School: Lake City (ID)
Club: NW Blazers
Commitment: Duke
2021 6’4 C Brooklyn Rewers has committed to Duke University of the ACC. Rewers has imposing size with soft hands and has gotten better each year in high school. She runs the floor pretty well and has good footwork in the post. The future Blue Devil finishes with her left as good, if not better than her right, so she is a difficult guard in the post. Her father played overseas for over a decade, so basketball and size is in her blood.
