Continue ReadingThe game has and always will start at the one, I’ve made this statement numerous times over the years and at times many of my statements just don’t sink in, such as ’it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” so I’m just throwing out some valuable thoughts that sort of tie into my mindsight because one thing I hate is manipulating the system with erroneous information and what I say is based on what I see and I’m sure I may have missed some players because of what this, “club basketball” has become, please familiarize yourself with where I’ll be in order to be seen and many of these players mentioned from this area were noticed or solidified at the Tyrone Johnson Showcase, #AllEyezOnMe Individual Showcase as well as the South Texas Classic so here are my thoughts
2021
Bria McClure Bria McClure 5'6" | PG Steele | 2021 State TX (Cibolo Steele)
Current Rank #12
McClure recently committed to Collge of Charleston and has been a pleasure to watch for many years for a number of reasons because when I first saw her, I could see the fire and as she has expanded her game in every aspect, including range, her mindset is just off the charts. She’s a vocal leader that can run a team to a tee yet she can take over a game offensively but her ballhandling and passing is second to none
Sydney Solitaire (Clark)
UNRANKED
Solitaire is a heady PG that just makes things happen whether it’s threading the needle or just controlling the tempo one minute or pushing the ball the next but she can mix it up as well from a number of ways including attacking and finishing or passing off the dribble as well as shooting a consistent midrange jumper just to keep defenders honest and she will definitely be added on the next update
2022
Deja Hinson Deja Hinson 5'6" | PG Clemens | 2022 State TX (Clemens)
Current Rank #63
Hinson handles the ball well, makes pinpoint passes and also understands who to pass to at the right time but when you add her ball handling under pressure as well as numerous offensive skills including attacking off the dribble or hitting the stop and pop going full speed, she can make things happen and when you also add the fact that she defends baseline to baseline…
Belecia Martinez Belecia Martinez 5'6" | PG Incarnate Word | 2022 State TX (Incarnate Word)
Current Rank #66
Martinez seems to be at every Individual Showcase I cover so I was well aware of her numerous abilities to shoot the ball, especially from deep yet she made the adjustment when I actually saw her running the one and I’m thinking “she definitely gets it” and she gives it at the right time because of her ability to see the floor and stretch the defense
2023
Ja’Shelle Johnson Ja’Shelle Johnson 5'5" | PG SA Johnson | 2023 State TX (Johnson)
Current Rank #17
Johnson showed me she had “it” the first time I saw her in 7th grade and no, I didn’t say she was a #D1Lock but I saw next level written all over her. Now, you can lock her in and throw away the key because she’s explosive, she understands the game and she just makes those around her better and that’s the job of the one. To keep things in perspective, she can shoot it from outside as well as attack off the dribble and one more time, there are Good Times when you see JJ because she is DYNOMITE
Molly Ly Molly Ly 5'5" | PG Cedar Park | 2023 State TX (Cedar Park)
Current Rank #29
Ly was a 7th grader as well when I saw the next level written all over her and that’s because of her acrobatic finishes combined with her long-range arsenal but she played JV this year but don’t get it twisted, she is legit and can see the floor as well as anyone. Her attack mode is always ready, she plays the passing lane but nifty ball-handling just makes a number of things happen
Jamie Reude Jamie Reude 5'6" | PG Boerne | 2023 State TX (Boerne)
Current Rank #31
Reude was one of the stars at She’s Ballin Showcase and she falls into numerous categories such as shooting or combo guard but she’ll be recruited as a one more than likely and yes, she can run the offense. Her ball-handling and passing came after the step back threes caught my eye and I actually followed her closely throughout the event to make sure I wasn’t a mirage, she’s real
Pace Rickard Pace Rickard 5'9" | PG Westlake | 2023 State TX (Westlake)
Current Rank #54
Rickard has good size and can handle the ball, these are pluses from the one position because it gives her n numerous options like posting up smaller guards as well as easily getting her shot off yet she sees the floor and sweets her teammates up nicely and she also understands how to get hers “in the flow” after getting those around her involved
Ese Ogbevire Ese Ogbevire 5'7" | PG Fulshear | 2023 State TX (Fulshear)
Current Rank #56
Ogbevire had numerous club coaches taking there turns at “the sell” with her dad and back in the day, that meant a player could actually play, it doesn’t really mean that in this era but she can go. I love explosiveness when it’s under control, she has that down and can hit teammates going full speed yet she can attack and finish and showed she could hit the outside shot as well
Avari Berry (Pflugerville)
UNRANKED
Berry wasn’t at the South Texas Classic the day I was there, wasn’t sure if she was injured or not yet I’ve seen enough of her at numerous Individual Showcases as well as the Tyrone Johnson to know what she brings to the table. She can stretch the defense with the long ball, handle the ball like a yo-yo under pressure and make passes as well as plays, she’ll be on the list on the next upgrade and one more time “size don’t matter, when you can play”
