These particular players have shown plenty of shooting ability early in their careers, as they were all on the state’s 3 point shooting leaderboard last season despite being freshmen or younger. They have all earned playing time on their varsity teams thanks in large part to their ability to knock down 3’s, further showing the value of that particular skill.
Brookyln Clark, Dawson Springs- A versatile player, Clark has shown the ability to knock down shots both off the dribble and as a spot-up shooter. She knocked down 2.4 shots from deep last year as a freshman while showing a well-rounded overall game. While her 31.3% shooting is not a great number, Clark has shown she has the ability to knock down shots, and certainly has the potential to improve her efficiency.
Graci Risley, Henderson County- An example of a player making the most of their shots, Risley took the fewest total 3 pointers last season of anyone on this list, yet still managed to knock down 2.3 of them per game. This was thanks to a superb 44.3% shooting percentage. If she can keep that efficiency up with an increase in volume, Risley’s shooting can be something truly special.
Timberly Fredrick, Knox Central- The final 3 players on this list have all shown 3 point shooting chops while playing varsity without yet being in high school. Fredrick showed off a great shot last season to earn a spot on a good Knox Central team as an 8th grader. She knocked down 2.2 shots per game from beyond the arc with an excellent 39.6% shooting. Now that her shooting has gotten her playing time, Fredrick can expand her game and cement herself as an impact player.
Carly Smith Carly Smith 5'6" | PG Owsley County | 2024 State KY , Owsley County- The most efficient scorer of anyone covered in this series, Smith shot and incredible 47.1% from deep last season, an almost unbelievable number. She combined this with solid volume to knock down 2.2 3 pointers a game last year. If she can continue that insane percentage with even more volume as she becomes a greater threat over the next few years, the class of 2024 standout will emerge as a truly elite player.
Karmin Riley, Hancock County- While all of the players on this list have shown impressive skills for their age, special mention should be made of Riley, who was one of the state’s top 3 point shooters as an 7th grader last season. She knocked down 2.2 deep balls per game at an impressive 38.3% clip, functioning largely as a spot-up shooter. Riley has thus far served as a prime example of how excellent shooting can result in plenty of playing time, and hopefully she can do even more over the rest of her career.
