Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
Rachel Leerar Rachel Leerar 5'7" | PG West Hancock | 2021 State IA – West Hancock
One of the top players in the Class of 2021, West Hancock’s Rachel Leerar Rachel Leerar 5'7" | PG West Hancock | 2021 State IA is quite well known already.
But if you don’t know about her, check these numbers out.
Leerar scored 533 points, averaging almost 20 per night, with a team-leading 127 assists and 134 rebounds this past year for West Hancock, which has won 50 of 54 games over the last two seasons.
The Eagles also reached the 2019 Class 1A state championship game and advanced to the state semifinals this past season.
Leerar already has made her college choice, committing to the University of Nebraska Kearney as she looks to close out her prep career with a four all-state honor.
Raven Kinnetz Raven Kinnetz 5'6" | SG Clarion-Goldfield-Dows | 2021 State IA – Clarion-Goldfield/Dows
A multi-sport standout, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows junior Raven Kinnetz Raven Kinnetz 5'6" | SG Clarion-Goldfield-Dows | 2021 State IA helped the Cowgirls win 17 games and reach the regional semifinal round this past winter.
Kinnetz led the team in scoring, averaging almost 16 points a night on 41 percent shooting from the floor and 83 percent from the line. She also led the team with 90 steals and 55 assists, adding 104 rebounds and 29 made three-pointers.
Maty Quirk Maty Quirk 5'9" | SF East Sac County | 2021 State IA – East Sac County
East Sac County flirted with a winning record this past winter, and with the returning scorer, rebounder and assist leader all set to return, the Raiders should be knocking on that door again.
Maty Quirk Maty Quirk 5'9" | SF East Sac County | 2021 State IA , a junior, scored a team-high 314 points, making 37 percent of her field goals, 71 percent of her free throws and 16 three-pointers this last year.
Quirk also had a Raider-best 85 steals to go along with 123 rebounds and 49 assists.
Alexa Ahrenholtz Alexa Ahrenholtz 5'6" | PG IKM-Manning | 2021 State IA – IKM-Manning
Another talented member of the Class of 2021 who surpassed the 300-point mark this past year was IKM-Manning’s Alexa Ahrenholtz Alexa Ahrenholtz 5'6" | PG IKM-Manning | 2021 State IA .
Ahrenholtz scored exactly 300 points, shooting 42 percent from the field with 36 made triples. She also had a leading 105 steals with 121 rebounds, 68 assists and 10 blocks, getting to the free throw line 103 times where she made 68 percent of those shots.
The Wolves won 17 games and advanced to the regional semifinal.
Addison McMurray Addison McMurray 5'6" | SG Belmond-Klemme | 2021 State IA – Belmond-Klemme
Belmond-Klemme won nine games and will look to senior-to-be Addison McMurray Addison McMurray 5'6" | SG Belmond-Klemme | 2021 State IA to get into double digits next winter.
McMurray scored 245 points, shooting 35 percent from the field with a team-leading 31 made three-pointers. She also had 97 assists, 82 rebounds, 43 steals and 19 blocks for the Broncos.
