Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should be valued by colleges.
Isabel Manning Isabel Manning 5'7" | SG Van Buren | 2021 State IA – Van Buren County
Van Buren County packed quite the punch last year behind Taryn Scheuermann Taryn Scheuermann 6'3" | C Van Buren | 2020 State IA and Isabel Manning Isabel Manning 5'7" | SG Van Buren | 2021 State IA , winning 21 games and the SEISC-South title.
With Scheuermann graduating, even more will be expected out of Manning as a senior.
Last year, Manning averaged 17 points and, eight rebounds, three assists and 2.5 steals per game. She made almost 46 percent of her shots from the field including 50 three-pointers.
Sasha Koenig Sasha Koenig 5'6" | PG West Branch | 2021 State IA – West Branch
Sasha Koenig Sasha Koenig 5'6" | PG West Branch | 2021 State IA was difficult to defend as a junior, and that should only continue next season.
The West Branch long-range specialist scored 380 points last year, making 49 three-pointers in all. She also had 142 assists, 90 rebounds and 87 steals.
Koenig shot just under 38 percent from the field, 30 percent from deep and 73 percent at the charity stripe.
Kylee Sanders Kylee Sanders 5'9" | PF Louisa-Muscatine | 2021 State IA – Louisa-Muscatine
Louisa-Muscatine experienced a fast start to the past season, winning nine of its first 12 games overall.
Junior Kylee Sanders Kylee Sanders 5'9" | PF Louisa-Muscatine | 2021 State IA was the leading scorer and rebounder for the Falcons, averaging 20 points and eight boards a night, but went down with an injury. She is committed to the University of Northern Iowa for softball alongside sister Hailey Sanders.
Sanders dominated the offensive glass, producing almost five rebounds per game on that side of the court. She finished with 304 points, 106 rebounds, 92 steals, 36 assists and 21 blocks in just 15 games.
Alexia McClure Alexia McClure 5'6" | SG Cardinal | 2021 State IA – Cardinal
The leading returning scorer for Cardinal, Alexia McClure Alexia McClure 5'6" | SG Cardinal | 2021 State IA averaged nine points a game this past year.
McClure also had a team-high 137 total rebounds, adding 35 steals, 32 assists and a dozen blocked shots.
An improvement in her overall scoring could be made with better percentages from the field and long-range to go along with her 71 percent free throw shooting.
Drew Fox – Danville
When you have an inside presence like Danville’s Drew Fox, it makes the entire defense that much better.
The Bears will be hoping to build off a nine-win season a year ago behind Fox, who had 196 points, 155 rebounds, 28 blocks and 16 steals.
She shot 44 percent from the field and made almost 60 percent of her free throw attempts.
