Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should be valued by colleges.
Allison Van Gorp Allison Van Gorp 6'1" | C Pella Christian | 2021 State IA – Pella Christian
The leading returning scorer in the region hails from Pella Christian and is junior Allison Van Gorp Allison Van Gorp 6'1" | C Pella Christian | 2021 State IA , who averaged a double-double with almost 15 points and 11 rebounds a night.
Last year, Van Gorp scored 354 points, helping the Eagles earn a postseason win to build around. Of her 11 boards a game, five came on the offensive glass.
Van Gorp shot almost 51 percent from the field and also had 271 total rebounds with 35 blocks and 20 steals.
Ellie Ware Ellie Ware 6'0" | C North Linn | 2021 State IA – North Linn
Several new faces will be present in the North Linn starting lineup after the Lynx won the state title this past winter.
One familiar one, though, will be senior-to-be Ellie Ware Ellie Ware 6'0" | C North Linn | 2021 State IA , who started 25 of 26 games.
Ware shot almost 53 percent from the field and 54 percent from the free throw line, recording 296 points with a team-leading 174 rebounds and 27 blocks.
Brennan Rhone – Colfax-Mingo
Just one member of the Colfax-Mingo roster departs due to graduation, meaning expectations are a little higher for the Tiger Hawks this year.
Junior Brennan Rhone is coming off a strong season that saw her contribute 119 points, 66 rebounds, 38 steals, 16 assists and 12 blocks. She could boost her overall scoring by improving her shooting from the field to go along with her strong free throw shooting, which sat at almost 72 percent.
Faith Vanderhart – Pleasantville
Pleasantville picked up eight victories last year and return all but three players from the active roster.
Junior Faith Vanderhart is part of the group looking to make more waves after she produced 119 points, 122 rebounds, 28 assists, 21 steals and 15 blocks.
Vanderhart should be able to improve on those numbers by pushing her field goal percentage up closer to her free throw shooting percentage.
Jorja Hanselman Jorja Hanselman 6'0" | C Van Meter | 2021 State IA – Van Meter
Van Meter scored a nice upset of Woodward-Granger to reach the regional finals last year, finishing with a 15-9 record.
Leading rebounder Jorja Hanselman Jorja Hanselman 6'0" | C Van Meter | 2021 State IA will try to finish her career strong after posting almost eight boards a game last year.
Hanselman also had 118 total points, 17 assists, 17 steals and blocked 16 shots, shooting just under 40 percent from the field.
