Leading the Bay conference last season was West De Pere. The team finished undefeated in conference play with a 14-0 record. Second in the Bay Conference was a tough New London squad that finished 10-4 in conference.
The six other teams in the conference include Xavier, Seymour, Menasha, Green Bay West, Shawano and Green Bay East. . Below is a list of five players who have had big seasons so far and are the top returning players that will impact this summer and next season.
1. Alexa Thomson Alexa Thomson 5'8" | CG West De Pere | 2021 State WI | West De Pere | Junior | 5’8 F
Thomson was the conference player of the year during her junior season at West De Pere. She led her team to an undefeated conference schedule and proved what a threat she was on both ends of the court. She led her team in scoring with 16.9 points per game and rebounding with 9.0 points per game. A strong post player who can handle the ball as well, Thomson is comfortable at any position on the floor. The West De Pere standout had a season-high 30 points twice this season. She has a smooth finish to her mid range shot as well.
2. Sammie Buss Sammie Buss 5'5" | PG Neenah | 2023 State WI | Xavier | Freshman | 5’5 G
An impact freshman who did a great job handling pressure during her first season on Xavier. She plays with patience and poise and impacts the game with her ability to facilitate the offense. She finished with 11.9 points per game for Xavier. She is an impressive passer as well with a high-iq for finding her teammates open. She works well getting her teammates open and setting hard screens for her other guards. She led her team in assists this season with 3.2 per game.
3. Mikayla Henderson Mikayla Henderson 5'7" | CG New London | 2021 WI | New London | Junior | 5’7 G
Henderson helped lead her team to the second spot in conference play this season. She finished second in scoring and second in rebounding for New London. A great overall player with a good understanding for her spots on the floor. She moves well without the ball and finds her shooting pockets effectively. Henderson is oftentimes playing on the block and guarding the opposing teams post player. She finished her junior campaign with 12.2 points per game and 4.2 boards. In a game against conference opponent Xavier, Henderson finished with a season-high 25 points.
4. Mara Rieder Mara Rieder 6'0" | PF Menasha | 2023 State WI | Menasha | Freshman | 6’0 F
A powerful post player who does a great job with her back to the basket. Rieder uses her body well to knock down drop steps and turn around jumpers. She has balance and footwork that make her hard to guard on the block. She’s strong with the ball and can create space in the lane. She developed her mid-range shot late season and I’d look for her to gain even more confidence on the perimeter this summer. She led her team in both scoring and rebounding this season. She finished with 13.1 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game.
5. Casey Jepson | West De Pere | Junior | 5’8 G
A floor general for West De Pere, Jepson will be the go-to floor general for her team this summer and next season. She’s a threat on both ends of the floor and impacts the game with her versatility. She’s comfortable playing in the lane or on the perimeter- making her super tough to defend. She has a smooth release to her shot and is effective shooting off the pass. She finished the season with 33 made three point baskets. The West De Pere standout finished with 10.4 points per game and 2.9 assists per game.
