Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Calia Clubb Calia Clubb 6'1" | PF Clear Creek-Amana | 2022 State IA – Clear Creek-Amana
A banner year for Clear Creek-Amana included 19 wins and a spot in the Class 4A state tournament field where they fell to North Scott.
And while some key pieces to that group need to be replaced, the Clippers to boast the return of Class of 2022’s Calia Clubb Calia Clubb 6'1" | PF Clear Creek-Amana | 2022 State IA .
Clubb led the team in rebounding last year with 9.2 per game and 220 total. That number included four boards a night on the offensive end. She also produced 214 points on 51 percent shooting, adding 29 assists, 28 blocks and 27 steals.
Sadie Struchen Sadie Struchen 5'9" | SG Marion | 2022 State IA – Marion
As Marion goes over these next couple of seasons, an important part of the success they have will be from what Sadie Struchen Sadie Struchen 5'9" | SG Marion | 2022 State IA does.
Struchen was a nightly contributor last year, scoring 214 points on 46 percent shooting from the floor. She was also lethal from long-range, hitting 41 percent of her triples and 54 total.
Along with her scoring, Struchen also added 45 rebounds, 38 assists and 15 steals.
Aurora Nehring Aurora Nehring 5'11" | PF Newton | 2022 State IA – Newton
Aurora Nehring Aurora Nehring 5'11" | PF Newton | 2022 State IA became part of the starting lineup for Newton and found her groove, scoring 178 points on almost 40 percent shooting from the floor.
Nehring, who knocked down nine three-pointers, also produced 98 rebounds, 44 steals and 38 assists. The Class of 2022 prospect finished as Newton’s leader in blocks with 36.
Anna Vander Waal – Pella
Pella’s Class of 2022 will be important over the next two seasons, and that starts with Anna Vander Waal.
Vander Waal scored 158 points this past winter for the Dutch while also directing the offense with 78 assists. She showed her ability to do a little of everything with 88 rebounds and 40 steals while shooting 36 percent from the floor with 20 made three-pointers.
Reagan Van Wyk – Pella
Another Class of 2022 prospect for Pella is Reagan Van Wyk
Van Wyk is coming off a season in which she scored 127 points with 69 rebounds, 31 assists, 17 steals and 11 blocked shots. She shot over 32 percent from the field and made 13 triples.
