Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2023’s who need to be on your radar.
Haidyn Hull Haidyn Hull 5'9" | SG Grinnell | 2023 State IA – Grinnell
Despite being a newcomer, Grinnell’s Haidyn Hull Haidyn Hull 5'9" | SG Grinnell | 2023 State IA carved out a role quickly with the Tigers.
Hull helped the high-octane team by scoring 260 points on 34 percent shooting with 51 made three-pointers. The Class of 2023 prospect put up 176 triples in all, adding 89 rebounds, 47 steals and 30 assists.
Lydia Olejniczak Lydia Olejniczak 5'8" | SF Perry | 2023 State IA – Perry
Thrown right into the fire as a newcomer, Perry’s Lydia Olejniczak Lydia Olejniczak 5'8" | SF Perry | 2023 State IA shined on the varsity scene.
Olejniczak produced 221 points to finish second on the team in scoring, shooting 44 percent from the field with 20 made three-pointers. She also contributed 145 rebounds to lead the Jayettes, adding 27 steals, 25 assists and eight blocked shots.
Emma Dunkin – Knoxville
A definite youth movement was made at Knoxvile this past year, spearheaded by Class of 2023’s Emma Dunkin.
Dunkin scored 129 points for the Panthers, adding 79 rebounds, 39 steals and 21 assists. She shot just under 33 percent from the field and will be looked upon for more with the graduation of leading scorer Katie Keitges Katie Keitges 5'8" | SG Knoxville | 2020 State IA .
Taysia Young – Des Moines Hoover
Des Moines Hoover mixed in some new talent with returning players last year, and Taysia Young found a chance to produce.
Young, who made 16 starts and played in 20 games, scored 80 points with 38 rebounds, 36 assists and 31 steals. She knocked down a handful of three-pointers and was able to get to the free throw line 51 times.
Leah Harris – Grinnell
Haidyn Hull Haidyn Hull 5'9" | SG Grinnell | 2023 State IA was not the only Class of 2023 prospect to see plenty of the court for Grinnell this past winter.
Fellow classmate Leah Harris played in 23 games with three starts, scoring 88 points and collecting 41 rebounds. She also added 30 steals and 22 assists during her debut season.
