Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Jocelyn Bice Jocelyn Bice 5'7" | PG Norwalk | 2022 State IA – Norwalk
Competing in the tough Little Hawkeye Conference, Norwalk found a consistent scorer in Jocelyn Bice Jocelyn Bice 5'7" | PG Norwalk | 2022 State IA .
The Class of 2022 Bice produced 279 points last season, shooting over 37 percent from the field with 12 made three-pointers. Along with sinking over 65 percent of her free throws, she also had 65 rebounds, a team-high 43 steals and 32 assists.
Lauren Carter Lauren Carter 5'10" | SF Winterset | 2022 State IA – Winterset
Winterset used a late-season run to finish 12-9 before bowing out in the regional semifinals.
The Huskies relied on several young players including Class of 2022’s Lauren Carter Lauren Carter 5'10" | SF Winterset | 2022 State IA , who scored 195 points on nearly 40 percent shooting from the floor.
Carter also was second on the team with 122 rebounds, adding 23 blocks, 21 steals and 18 assists.
Ella Lampe Ella Lampe 5'7" | SG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2022 State IA – Dallas Center-Grimes
All but one player is set to return for Dallas Center-Grimes, including Ella Lampe Ella Lampe 5'7" | SG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2022 State IA .
The Class of 2022 Lampe produced a little bit of everything a season ago, scoring 93 points with 71 rebounds, 50 assists and 48 steals. She knocked down 15 three-pointers, as well.
Bridget Stover Bridget Stover 5'11" | SF Winterset | 2022 State IA – Winterset
Another Class of 2022 player that saw starting time in 20 games for Winterset was Bridget Stover Bridget Stover 5'11" | SF Winterset | 2022 State IA .
Stover shot 38 percent from the floor and 60 percent from the free throw line, knocking down 11 three-pointers. She finished the year with 189 points, a team-leading 135 rebounds, 30 assists, 26 blocks and 25 steals. Her blocks also ranked first on the team.
Olivia Johnson – Norwalk
Right there alongside Jocelyn Bice Jocelyn Bice 5'7" | PG Norwalk | 2022 State IA in the Norwalk starting lineup was Class of 2022’s Olivia Johnson.
Johnson, a 41 percent shooter from the field, scored 138 points with 143 rebounds, 53 assists and 38 steals. She ranked second on the team in rebounding, first in assists and second in steals.
