Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should be valued by colleges.
Ashley Fountain Ashley Fountain 5'7" | SG North Scott | 2021 State IA – Bettendorf
Bettendorf’s Ashley Fountain Ashley Fountain 5'7" | SG North Scott | 2021 State IA will look to build off her fine junior season in which she led the team in scoring at 10.6 points per night with 234 total on the year.
Fountain shot almost 43 percent from the floor and over 36 percent from the three-point line, making 82 percent of her free throws. She also produced 68 rebounds, 35 assists and 32 steals, making 24 triples in all.
Corinne Meier – Dubuque Hempstead
This past season saw Dubuque Hempstead win 14 games and reach the regional championship before falling to Iowa City High.
The Mustangs will need to replace eight seniors, but have plenty of returning players coming back including Corinne Meier who scored 185 points with 108 rebounds, 29 assists and 28 made three-pointers.
Acorianna Lard Acorianna Lard 5'9" | SF Davenport Central | 2021 State IA – Davenport Central
Davenport Central’s Acorianna Lard Acorianna Lard 5'9" | SF Davenport Central | 2021 State IA gave herself some momentum heading into her senior season.
Lard scored 165 points in 20 games, adding 67 assists, 61 rebounds, 41 steals and 30 blocks. She shot almost 42 percent from the floor and made 11 three-pointers.
Ella Cook Ella Cook 5'10" | PF Iowa City High | 2021 State IA – Iowa City High
Iowa City High’s Ella Cook Ella Cook 5'10" | PF Iowa City High | 2021 State IA has carved out quite the role of rebounding queen.
Cook is coming off a season in which she recorded 159 boards in all, including 73 on the offensive glass. She scored 140 points with 44 steals, 23 assists and eight blocks, shooting over 42 percent from the field for the Little Hawks.
Morgan Hawkins – Dubuque Hempstead
Another returning piece for Dubuque Hempstead is Class of 2021’s Morgan Hawkins.
Last year, Hawkins recorded 160 points, which made her one of five players on the team to reach triple digits. She also produced 155 rebounds to tie for the team lead along with 35 assists, 24 steals and 10 made three-pointers.
