Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Adriauna Mayfield Adriauna Mayfield 5'7" | SG Davenport Central | 2022 State IA – Davenport Central
Class of 2022 prospect Adriauna Mayfield Adriauna Mayfield 5'7" | SG Davenport Central | 2022 State IA did a little bit of everything for Davenport Central this past season.
Mayfield scored 207 points in 20 games, adding 95 rebounds with 40 steals, 36 blocks and 17 assists. She shot almost 37 percent from the floor and made 20 three-pointers while also sinking 67 percent of her free throw tries.
Eviyon Richardson Eviyon Richardson 5'7" | SF Iowa City | 2022 State IA – Iowa City High
Underclassmen like Eviyon Richardson Eviyon Richardson 5'7" | SF Iowa City | 2022 State IA will get to benefit from the constant defensive attention Kelsey Joens Kelsey Joens 5'10" | SG West Liberty | 2023 State IA requires night in and night out.
Richardson, a member of the Class of 2022, scored 165 points with 138 rebounds, 32 assists and 18 steals last season. She shot almost 44 percent from the field and made 12 three-pointers.
Haley Napoli – Iowa City Liberty
Another of the many young weapons for Iowa City Liberty is Class of 2022’s Haley Napoli.
Napoli scored 89 points with 60 rebounds, 31 assists and 12 steals this past season for the Lightning. She buried 16 three-pointers and got to the free throw line 31 times in 20 games.
Bria Clark – Davenport Central
Also making an impact on the court for Davenport Central was Class of 2022’s Bria Clark.
In 14 games with 10 starts, Clark produced 158 points on 51.5 percent shooting from the field. She also recorded 85 rebounds, 15 steals, 13 assists and blocked four shots.
Izzy Appel – Bettendorf
Bettendorf won 14 games this past winter before falling to Dubuque Hempstead in a close regional semifinal.
The Bulldogs return plenty of talent for the coming season including Class of 2022’s Izzy Appel, who scored 79 points on 43 percent shooting with 12 made three-pointers. She also had 39 rebounds, 11 steals and six assists.
