I took the trek to Las Vegas to check out some of the California teams that participated in the Las Vegas Summer Showdown at various locations in Vegas on July 10-12th. My original trip was to cover The Main Event, but it was cancelled a few days before the tournament was to start, but this one was available so I went over to watch some good basketball.
EBO Lady Hoops:
2021, 6’1, SG, El Capitan HS (San Diego), McKenzie Curtis McKenzie Curtis 5'10" | SF El Capitan | 2021 State CA – McKenzie is a straight forward player with a nice skill set for her size and body type, she is a shooter supreme and is not shy to let that thing go when she is open. She has as good college type body that will allow her to withstand the hits and bumps in college and she can also make shots under pressure, which will help her greatly. Handles the ball well for her position and is a go getter on the floor, defensively she is solid and can keep her opponent in front of her most times. She has already committed to University of New Mexico, so you see she is a player to watch at the next level.
2021, 6’3, SF, Bishops School (San Deigo), Jada Davis Jada Davis 6'3" | C Bishops (San Diego) | 2021 State CA – Jada is a beast under the rim for her age and body type, she can run the floor like a gazelle and rebound with the best of them. She is quite an athlete when it comes to the chasing kids down for block shots and sealing them under the rim for scores. She has a long wing-span which allows for the block shots and it also comes in handy as a defender to change shots she cannot get to in the paint. Jada will make a nice specimen for a Ivy League school do to her GPA in school, I have even had a few Ivy League schools reach out to me about her, so you see she is on a couple of list for college coaches.
2022, 5’6, PG, Bishops School (San Diego), Natalia Sierra – Natalia is a slender, long guard type for her age, she is skilled at getting to rim, pulling up for a short jumper or hitting the three pointer when open. She is a young guard still developing her game, but she is also a tenacious guard who is on the attack at all times. She can knock down the three pointer with consistency from deep and is not afraid to give you an upfake and take it to the rim or for a nice midrange pull up. She is another player that will be pretty good in the time that she still has in high school and club scene, this pandemic put a damper on alot of plans this club season.
2022, 5’5, PG/SG, Bishops School (San Diego), Renee Chong Renee Chong 5'3" | PG Bishop's HS | 2022 State CA – Renee is a shooter from deep, long distance area, she loves to pull up for long three pointers cause of defender who back up and believe she cannot hit that shot. She is a guard type, that is quick and slippery with the handle, she is tenacious and a bulldog on the floor that never stops pressing the issue. She can take you to the rim and finish the layup or drive and kick which is their specialty at Bishops where she plays. Renee is a tough kid and will garner some schools who will be interested in the type of guard she is and that is a solid combo guard at the next level.
