Teonni Key’s Top 5 games from the 2019-20 season

The Cary Imps girls basketball program endured several struggles throughout the 2019-20 season, which forced them to settle for a disappointing 6-19 record. Despite the issues, junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="116874" first="Teonni" last="Key"]</strong> proved to be a tremendous bright spot for the team by averaging 20.6 points per game, 13.6 rebounds per game and 2.6 blocks per game in 18 appearances. With her senior season scheduled to start in a few months barring any COVID-19-related setbacks, Key will continue to be a dominant inside presence for Cary. Here are five performances from Key during the 2019-20 season that contributed to her on-court efficiency. <strong style="font-size: 1rem;">5. February 14, 2020. Cary 49, Athens Drive 44</strong> Cary engaged in an intense battle with Athens Drive throughout most of the evening, but Key proved to be instrumental in her team’s victory by tallying 26 points and 21 rebounds, 14 of which occurred on defense. Key also registered two blocks during her strong evening while also helping generate offense for Cary with four assists. <strong style="font-size: 1rem;">4. February 17, 2020. Jordan 72, Cary 46</strong> Cary proved to be no match for Jordan during the closing weeks of the 2019-20 season, who proceeded to dominate them on both sides of the ball to secure an easy home victory. The one issue Jordan encountered during their otherwise stellar evening was stopping Key. She salvaged a dismal night for Cary by scoring 28 points and recording 17 rebounds, while also adding a steal, a block and an assist. <strong style="font-size: 1rem;">3. January 3, 2020. Garner Magnet 70, Cary 52</strong> Cary’s first game of the new year was a lopsided affair that easily favored Garner Magnet, but it was also a strong game underneath the rim for Key, who contributed with a typical 23-point performance. The matchup also saw Key record a season-high 25 rebounds, with 19 of those occurring on defense while the other six came on offense. Key also harassed Garner Magnet throughout the evening by adding two assists and four rebounds. <strong style="font-size: 1rem;">2. December 17, 2019. Cary 63, Green Hope 55</strong> Key was a factor in every single aspect of Cary’s victory over Green Hope by leading her team in scoring with 24 points and adding a total of 22 rebounds. Key also made sure to get teammates like <strong>Justice Mazza </strong>and <strong>Deshyria Paige </strong>in on the scoring action by tallying a season-high in assists with five. She also blocked four shots and stole the ball four times to eliminate any chance of Green Hope contending for the win. <strong>1. January 7, 2020. Cary 63, Panther Creek 54</strong> Key was a nightmare for the Panther Creek defense throughout the entire evening. Any effort the team made to stop Key proved to be futile, as she relentlessly torched her opponent’s defense to seal the win for Cary. The scoring attack by Key would prove to be her best of the season. She registered a total of 32 points and dominated the boards with 14 offensive rebounds to go with the eight she obtained on defense.
