This time it was the Hoosier Summer Invitational at Warsaw High School’s campus, including using their beautiful new 4-court fieldhouse. The event was loaded with most of the best teams/programs from the state of Michigan, and while there was only one team from Indiana on hand, there were also a handful of other Hoosiers on non-Indiana travel teams. Below is a look at seven Indiana prospects who stood out in Saturday’s action when I was able to see them.
Cailynn Dilosa, 2021, 5-1 PG, Merrillville H.S.
Saturday was my first time ever seeing Cailynn, or really hearing about her, to be completely honest. She isn’t very big, but she has elite speed and quickness, plus she plays with an outstanding motor and some toughness. She does a nice job taking care of the basketball, changing speeds, and affecting the game at both ends of the floor. She is a little dart who collapses defense offensively, plus she can really bother ball-handlers 84-feet as a defender. I was really impressed with her discipline and overall play, though I didn’t see her shoot any/many jumpers, so I don’t what she’s capable of from that aspect.

Danielle has put together a really nice Summer and played well each time I’ve seen her. I hope the Midwest’s small colleges have taken notice, because she has a lot of physical talent, a passion for the game, and she competes at both ends of the floor every possession. Danielle has a wiry strong frame, some length, and good speed/quickness. She can handle it and create offense, she can get to the basket to score, and she shoots it fairly well from the perimeter. But more than anything, I have been impressed with her tenacity at the defensive end of the floor.

Kelly has had an outstanding Summer and really improved her recruiting stock. She is a strong, tough-nosed, and skillful point guard prospect. She has okay speed, but she has deceptively quick feet and does a tremendous job of containing ball-handlers out on the floor. She rebounds her position very well also. Offensively, she has a strong and steady presence, she controls tempo, and she doesn’t rush or force the action. She lets things come to her, she runs the offense, and she finds teammates and usual makes the right decision in terms of when to shoot it herself.

Bailie’s passion for the game and competitive fire are evident each time she takes the floor. She plays with an outstanding motor, she is a consistent communicator with her teammates, and she is always around the basketball. If anything, she’ll need to continue learning to sense tone and change speeds, but you can’t fault her effort. She gets into the lane, finds open teammates, and she can knock down an open rhythm jumper when she has her feet set. I also like her awareness and instincts at the defensive end of the floor, as she often creates turnovers.

De’Mour was someone who had evaded me until this Summer, but after watching her with her IABC team a few times, she has a chance to be a really nice college prospect. De’Mour is very athletic, she is bouncy, and she runs and jumps well. She has length, wiry strength, and a nice toughness to her game. Right now she is very much to-the-rim, so she will need to continue developing her perimeter jumper, but she’s difficult to contain, plus she’s a tremendous rebounder for her position and has a real nose for the ball. She is also a versatile, aggressive defender.

Asia had a very noticeable Freshman season, averaging 12.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 steals per game. Saturday was my first time seeing her live and up close, and she is a long, wiry strong, and athletic scorer. She is really good attacking the basket North/South, she absorbs contact well, plus she has a nice little pull-up in her repertoire. She can knock down the occasional perimeter jumper when she’s set and in rhythm, but if she can make that more consistent she could be difficult to defend at all levels. Asia also uses her length and quick feet well defensively.
Gaby Gates, 2024, 5-10 SF, Northridge H.S.
I am still trying to learn Gaby as a college prospect, but as a ballplayer, she has a mature game for her young age. She plays with poise and a nice motor, she doesn’t mind physicality whatsoever, and she is always around the basketball. She has a strong-for-her-age frame, she’s a nice athlete in all directions, and she can play in the mid-post or around the perimeter. As she ages, I think she’ll become a full-time wing, but she’ll need to continue developing her handle and learn how to play a little lower to the ground with the ball. Look for her to possibly play early for Northridge.
