Qiera Newby-5’8 G (Travis HS)
Newby is just that as far as me knowing who she is because I didn’t and I’m not too arrogant to say that I hadn’t seen her or didn’t know who she was but two things, she brings it right at you, she understands how to start the break one end and hit teammates on the money yet she can slow it down and change tempo when needed as well as keep defenders honest by shooting from the outside
Victoria Moore-5’0 PG (Dulles HS)
Moore never gives less, that was pretty smooth but not as smooth as watching her attack players off the dribble or defend baseline to baseline. I didn’t start off with the #sizedontmatter because she can play, I gave you some reasons why she could play first because she won’t back down and she gives everything plus she thinks the game and those passes are on the money and the ballhandling solid
Peyton McWherther-5’4 G (Pearland Dawson HS)
McWherther was definitely one to open my eyes, I hadn’t seen her either because her team wasn’t where I was but I can’t emphasize the importance of guards who play within themselves and understand the game. Her BB-IQ and court vision is solid, she’s vocal on the court and she creates her shot well, either attacking the basket or dropping the 3 ball
Abigail Lord-5’11 F (St Agnes HS)
Lord has been one of my faves since she ran into me 3 years ago as I was trying to get that perfect action shot and the first thing she asked was “why are you in the way”. Okay, that’s not what she said, she asked if I was okay but she should have said the other because I’m still hurting but I said all of that to say “you won’t find anyone that plays harder” and does the “dirty work” which is why I put her in that #THROWBACK player category. She rebounds against players taller, on both ends and she finishes and joining a new team was a blessing because she has her confidence back and ran into me again, she’s still strong
Madison Clay-5’5 G (Manvel HS)
Clay is one of an ab Sundance of talented guards at her high school that is about the same size and play similar so I can imagine the heat they’ll bring pressing opponents this season but on top of that, she showed she could cause damage on the other end attack the basket with some nifty ball-handling but when she started dropping the long ball, I’m thinking uh-oh
Bailey Anderson-5’7 F (Pearland Dawson HS)
Anderson has #SDM by her name, size don’t matter, stay with me yall because she certainly stayed with taller players, and again, if you comprehend positioning and timing, have the mindset of not being outworked and passionate about what you’re doing, you can make things happen and she did. She outrebounded and scored on taller players, consistently and showed she could create her shot
Eliza Lehman-5’5 PG/SG (Tomball HS)
Lehman has been under my radar for a while with her club team so I knew some of what to expect, thinks the game, plays within herself, can score in the flow, yet it’s good to see players in different settings and she seized the opportunity to show me more as she controlled the tempo when she ran the one, made precision passes to the right people and created her own shot
