Genesis Santiago – It was my first time seeing Genesis and I was really impressed with her grit, hustle, and competitive nature on both ends. She took some hard fouls and showed a lot of toughness. Genesis showed a strong ability to score the rock at all three levels and defend the length of the court. She was the best surprise of the showcase for me.
Reese Tremitiere Reese Tremitiere 6'1" | PF Gulf Coast | 2022 State FL – I hadn’t seen Reese play in a while, but it’s clear that she has put some work into her game. Her post moves are tough to defend since she can go over either shoulder and shoot with both hands around the hoop. Her mid range game is high quality, and she always looks to make the right play or best play rather than the selfish one. Reese doesn’t force any shots and kicks it out when there is a better look or nothing inside.
Jaela Davis Jaela Davis 5'7" | CG Brooks DeBartolo | 2022 State FL – Jaela consistently showcases her superior quickness and shooting abilities against all levels of competition. She had no issue driving to the rim around anyone, and it was nice to see her do more of that than usual since she’s known as a sharp shooter. I’m expecting a big Junior campaign with a really impressive Brooks DeBartolo team.
Ajalon Gillard Ajalon Gillard 5'9" | CG West Orange | 2022 State FL – She does a good job of pushing the ball up the floor under control. You don’t want to leave her open or lose her on defense as she will knock it out from anywhere. Ajalon has a really solid all-around game with her lengthy frame that allows her to guard multiple positions. Looking forward to seeing how her summer against elite competition translates to school ball with West Orange.
Kyleigh Welsh Kyleigh Welsh 6'3" | PF Clearwater HS | 2022 State FL – Every time I looked towards a game Kyleigh was playing in, I saw her blocking a shot. Her timing is on point when going for a block, and I think she will be a top shot blocker in the state this year. She has clearly been putting in work with her footwork and shot from 15 feet and in, too. I expect her to jump on a lot of radars this season for a quality Clearwater squad that will make some noise.
Katie Ambrose Katie Ambrose 5'5" | PG Gulf Coast | 2022 State FL – There are few people who don’t know Katie’s name if they are on the internet. She’s a terrific passer and can score it when she needs to. Katie uses every bit of her handles that she works hard to continue improving to drive to the hoop and make some crafty buckets amongst the trees. She should have a strong high school season with a really nice Gulf Coast team.
China Jenkins China Jenkins CG Evangelical Christian | 2022 State FL – This was another girl I saw for the first time this weekend. China has a lengthy frame and played hard on every possession. She seemed to be involved in every play and showed some impressive athleticism by getting up for boards and putbacks. I’ll be interested to see how she does at Largo this year as a relatively unknown player to most.
Emari Lewis Emari Lewis 5'7" | CG Wesley Chapel | 2022 State FL – She was one of the better all around players on Sunday. Emari has a confident swagger about her that allows her to compete with anyone. She did a good job of handling the ball with some slick handles, and she’s tough when getting to the rack or hitting a nice step back. Welsey Chapel should have a fun year with some new and returning pieces even after losing talent from a successful season.
