With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top forwards in Class B:
Abbey Kubas Abbey Kubas 5'11" | SF Dickinson Trinity | 2021 State ND , Dickinson Trinity
Dickinson Trinity should be one of the best teams in Region 7 and Kubas is the unquestioned go-to scorer. The 5-foot-11 forward averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds while converting better than 50 percent of her field goal attempts. She’s a dominant presence inside and can score against any type of defense thanks to a combination of skill, effort and athleticism.
Terryn Johnson Terryn Johnson 6'1" | C Kindred | 2022 State ND , Kindred
Johnson averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds as a sophomore, earning all-state honors for a Kindred team that went undefeated until the Region 1 championship game. She’s a dominant defensive presence in the paint and allows Kindred’s perimeter defenders to play aggressive defense and trigger transition opportunities. She’s a strong finisher at the rim, combining strong low post skill with a soft shooting touch.
Sam Oase, Hettinger/Scranton
Oase earned all-state honors for the second year in a row, leading Hettinger/Scranton to another state tournament appearance. The 6-foot senior averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds last year and has the ability to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor against anybody. The Night Hawks will head into the 2020-21 season as a contender in Region 7 – Oase being arguably the best player in the area is the reason why.
Jacie Hall Jacie Hall 6'2" | C Shiloh Christian | 2021 State ND , Shiloh Christian
Hall’s been a foundational player for the Skyhawks each of the last two years, helping lead the team to two straight state tournaments. She’s one of the best two-way interior players in the state and has the ability to deliver consistent double-double production as a senior. She’ll pair with Grace Kelly Grace Kelly 6'1" | SF Shiloh Christian | 2022 State ND to form one of the best frontcourt duos in the state.
Walker Demers Walker Demers 6'3" | C Grafton | 2023 ND , Grafton
Demers enjoyed something of a coming out party in the 2020 state tournament, averaging a double double while helping Grafton reach the state title game. She averaged nearly 10 points and 10 rebounds as a freshman while emerging as one of the best defensive players in the state. Her role may not change a whole lot yet as the Spoilers return all five starters, but her effectiveness in her role should increase this season – a scary thought for the teams serious about contending with the Spoilers at the highest levels.
