The Top 250 Expo was a huge success full of so many talented athletes. Each prospect brought something different to the floor and it was exciting to see how elite Wisconsin girls basketball is. Take a look at some of the breakdowns after watching each girl compete on Sunday.
Offensive Standouts:
Teagan Mallegni Teagan Mallegni 6'1" | SF McFarland | 2024 State WI | Brodhead | 5’11 | 2024
A versatile player who has incredible talent and upside. Mallegni plays with a lot of experience and is intelligent on the floor. Her shot selection is elite and she moves well without the ball. She doesn’t gamble much on defense but has great timing for shot blocking already. She is also a consistent rebounder and impacted games with her offensive rebounding put backs.
Avery Poole Avery Poole 5'7" | PG Monona Grove | 2022 State WI | Monona Grove | 5’8 | 2022
Poole brings the ball up the court with pressure on her so effortlessly. She isn’t phased by full court pressure and actually seems to welcome it as she can create her shot off the defender. She was a knock down shooter at the Top 250 Expo and proved that her stroke from behind the arc is one of the best in her class. She creates her own shot off the dribble and her pull up at the top of the key is lethal. She displayed a range of attack moves and has a super effective hesitation move before going into the lane.
Sammi Beyer Sammi Beyer 5'7" | CG Appleton East | 2023 State WI | Appleton East | 5’7 | 2023
Beyer stood out in so many ways at the expo. She does so much more than score the basketball when she steps onto the court. She’s an intelligent two way player. Offensively she is all over the place, controlling the flow of the game. She knows her role and doesn’t do too much or settle for lazy attacks/shots. She’s composed and steady when setting up her perimeter shot. When going down hill, Beyer has speed and great court vision finding her open teammates. An elite passer, Beyer excels in transition bounce passes.
Kennedy Holmes Kennedy Holmes 5'8" | CG DSHA | 2024 TX | DSHA | 5’8 | 2024
Holmes proved that she will have an immediate impact at the Varsity level. She plays with so much toughness and grit on the floor. She’s super consistent on offene and can definitely put up huge numbers. Her pull up jumper is already very elite and her shot selection is impressive. She is patient when attacking but lightning quick after her defender falls for a fake or loses balance. She is very athletic already and will only get faster and more consistent. High ceiling prospect.
Shiauna Nixon- Boyd Shiauna Nixon- Boyd 5'8" | CG Milwaukee Riverside | 2021 State WI | Riverside University | 5’9 | 2021
Nixon- Boyd really took control during the expo and did a fantastic job displaying her offensive skill set. She moves so well with and without the ball. Her handles have improved tremendously and she is confident bringing the ball up the floor. She is a coast to coast player who has quickness and agility to consistently attack full court. The Riverside University standout continues to develop her perimeter shot and has knocked down some big shots in transition as well as off the pass. Her attack off the dribble is smooth and she can really handle contact in the lane.
Kierra Bond Kierra Bond 5'7" | C Riverside | 2023 WI | Messmer | 5’7 | 2023
A solid player who can impact on all three levels, Bond is extremely dynamic. She has a nice first step pull up and can create space with her ability to jump over defenders on her mid-range shot. She pushes the ball in transition and is an effective play maker. Her eyes are always up and her court vision for finding post players is exceptional. Bond showed some range this weekend and will definitely be a high impact player for Messmer this season.
