The event featured players from California, Utah, Nevada, and Washington. Quite a few players from Southern California were in attendance, and I was able to follow along through social media livestreaming.
Here’s a quick look at some additional top standouts from Southern California.
1. Jaeda Spence Jaeda Spence 5'10" | SG Santa Barbara HS | 2022 State CA – Santa Barbara 2022
Spence is a player that’s capable of playing both forward positions. In small ball lineups when she’s at the power forward, she acts as a stretch big who can face up and shoot jumpers. Solid mid-range game. At small forward, she can handle the ball on the wing and run the floor in transition. Good finisher at the rim. She’s a strong rebounder. Has a bit of a size advantage over smaller wings.
2. Demonnie Lagway Demonnie Lagway 5'9" | SF Palisades Charter | 2022 State CA – Palisades 2022
Lagway is a player who I first saw during the 2019-20 season. She was the only sophomore to be named to the All-CIF LA City Section Team last year. She’s an explosive scorer capable of taking over a game offensively. She’s tough to stop when coming downhill. Gets into the lane with ease and can draw contact and get to the free-throw line. She’s also a good defensive player. She slides her feet well on the wings and can stick with most players.
3. Jolie Johnson Jolie Johnson 6'0" | SF San Clemente HS | 2022 State CA – San Clemente 2022
Johnson is a wing who has a knack for playing defense. She has great defensive awareness, she knows where the ball is when guarding a player off-ball and she can read passes well. Hustles back defensively on the break. She’s a good shooter with range out to the three-point line. Quick release on her jumper. Also a pretty strong rebounder.
