Last season the Woodland West was led by Pius XI Catholic. Their team finished with an 11-1 regular season record. Finishing second in the conference was New Berlin Eisenhower with a 10-2 record. Pius XI Catholic was home of two of the state’s top post players last season in Player of the Year Jasmine Kondrakiewicz Jasmine Kondrakiewicz 6'1" | C Pius XI | 2020 State WI and Tennessee State’s Jada Spence Jada Spence 6'0" | C Pius XI | 2020 State WI . However the team is still stacked with incoming 2024 talent and one of Wisconsin’s top post players in the class of 2022, Mya Moore Mya Moore 6'0" | PF Pius XI Catholic | 2022 State WI will return for her junior season. Another 2022 guard in Tori Kostuck Tori Kostuck 5'6" | CG Pius XI | 2022 State WI will return for another season as Pius XI, she was a role player last season but is certainly on the radar to be an impact prospect during her junior season.
New Berlin Eisenhower was led last season by graduate and University of Minnesota commit Erin Hedman Erin Hedman 6'3" | PF Berlin Eisenhower | 2020 State WI . She brought in 12 points per game and 8 rebounds during her senior season in 2020. Hedman was a huge factor in her team’s success but the scoring and rebounding was fairly spread out. Second leading scorer with 10.9 points per game Nikki Dienburg will return for her senior season. She earned First Team All Conference last season and was the only junior to make the list.
Take a look at returning players posed to make a huge impact this season:
Nikki Dienberg Nikki Dienberg 5'8" | CG New Berlin Eisenhower | 2021 State WI | New Berlin Eisenhower | Senior | 5’7 G
Dienerg is versatile, intense and consistent. She brings great tempo and energy to the floor. She is a floor general and can play the point guard or off ball position successfully. She has composed handles and is comfortable running the offense. She makes her teammates better and is often threading the needle on her passes. She led her conference in assists with 5 per game. She can get to basket offensively and does well drawing the foul. She keeps her head up and has multiple finish moves in the lane. She averaged 10.9 points per game. Dienberg takes pride in her defense and will grab boards on both ends. She finished last season averaging 6.4 boards per matchup.
Mya Moore Mya Moore 6'0" | PF Pius XI Catholic | 2022 State WI | Pius XI Catholic | Junior | 6’1 PF
Moore has always been an exciting player to watch and has so much upside for the next level. She competes hard and has developed so many aspects of her game in such a short time. Her basketball IQ is there and is proven by the way she moves with and without the ball. She seals well inside and really knows how to use her body on both ends. Her sit and spin on the block is almost impossible to stop. This summer she added some range to her game and she is comfortable dribbling the ball and creating her own shot. She can knock it down from deep and has a consistent mid range pull up. Last season Moore finished with 12.1 points and 8 rebounds per game. She currently holds an offer from Lindenwood University.
Brynn Fuerstenberg Brynn Fuerstenberg 5'10" | SG New Berlin Eisenhower | 2022 State WI | New Berlin Eisenhower | Junior | 5’10 G
Fuerstenberg is another player who ended up having to step up and play a bigger role for her team. Last season she stood out for her ability to be patient and poised on the offensive end. The junior had such a low turnover ratio and just seemed to do so well overall. She is confident on the floor and can score from many different spots. She’s a versatile guard who is comfortable playing the forward position in the lane or extending to the perimeter- she impacts wherever she is placed. She finished with 10.1 points and 6.2 boards per game during her sophomore season.
Sarah Newcomer Sarah Newcomer 5'8" | CG Pewaukee | 2022 State WI | Pewaukee | Junior | 5’9 G
Newcomer has been making noise all summer and coaches should be very excited to watch her compete this season. After losing some standout seniors on Pewaukee, Newcomer will be the go-to player for her team to be successful. During her sophomore season she finished with 7.5 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game. She has an elite understanding for her game and transitions from slow to fast exceptionally well. Newcomer has great length and mobility that really helps her in transition play. She’s a vocal leader as well and you can clearly tell she communicates with her team to make the right play.
Meghan Schultz Meghan Schultz 6'4" | C New Berlin West | 2023 State WI | New Berlin West | Sophomore | 6’4 F
Schultz has incredible mobility and movement for being 6’4. What she lacks in athletic ability (which is not much), she makes up for with fundamentals. She has great movement in the paint and knows when to make the offensive play. She holds her position well and does well creating contact before the finish. When she is double teamed, Shultz does an excellent job finding her teammate open on a dime. Look for her to add more craft on the block as she gets a bit more comfortable handling the defense. She doesn’t try crazy blocks, but simply puts her hands up and forces defenders to finish through her. She has great decision making skills which help her be a force on both ends. Schultz is a physically-advanced prospect with a high ceiling.
