Below is a list of post players who are making noise and proving that their stocks are rising soon into the season. Each of these forwards and centers have shown glimpses of how elite they will be the rest of the season and beyond. This list consists of posts in the Capitol conferences.
Capitol North: Columbus, Lake Mills, Lakeside Lutheran, Lodi, Poynette, Watertown Luther Prep.
Capitol South: Belleville, Cambridge, Marshall, New Glarus, Waterloo, Wisconsin Heights.
Mayah Holzhueter | Cambridge | 5’11 Junior
The junior is third in the Capitol South conference for scoring which is very impressive in such a talented conference. She is averaging 16 points per game. Holzhueter’s game is really developing as she’s added so much versatility on both ends. She’s able to score on the three point line as well as dominate inside the lane. She works hard inside and uses her teammates to get herself open. In a tough game against Edgerton she finished with 23 points for her team.
Taylor Zellmer | Watertown Luther Prep | 5’10 Junior
Playing alongside the conference’s top scorer Grace Schmidt Grace Schmidt 6'0" | PF Watertown Luther Prep | 2022 State WI , Zellmer has still been able to showcase her talents and be an impact player for this squad. She is averaging 8 points and 8 rebounds per game. Zellmer does a wonderful job of playing her role and being patient in finding her shot within the offense. She has the speed to be able to step outside and the strength to dominate in the paint. In a win over a tough Oakfield team, Zellmer finished with 11 points. She has fantastic athleticism on the floor and it shows in her ability to move quickly in transition. She is a spark plug shot blocker with a high ceiling for averaging multiple blocks per game later on this season.
Lauryn Milne | Lodi | 5’11 Senior
Milne is a player who has been so successful being able to play inside and out. She’s proven to be an impact guard but has high potential and a rising stock for her role as a forward for this team. She has fantastic positional height to be a force in the lane as well as going downhill. She seems to be more confident in her strength this season and isn’t backing down from contact. Milne also will take the three point shot if left open. She is averaging 14 points per game and 7 rebounds.
Sophia Schneider | Waterloo | 6’0 Sophomore
Schnieder is a dynamic player who can compete inside and out. A defensive machine so far this season, Schneider is a relentless on ball defender. She has grabbed nearly 20 steals in her first few games. She seems most comfortable at the guard position but coaches in this conference should keep an eye on her as she continues to develop her post play. She has the height to be an impact shot blocker and be able to alter passes within the defense. She has been able to effectively score at all three levels so far this season. She is averaging 10 points per game. In a victory over Belleville, Schneider finished with 15 points.
Callie Smith | Belleville | 6’0 Junior
The junior is taking on a much larger role for her team this season. She’s already been off to a fantastic start and it shows in the numbers she’s been able to produce. She is averaging 12 points and nearly 14 rebounds per game. A dominant force in the paint, Smith uses her body tremendously well. She’s an offensive rebounding specialist, she’s able to keep the ball high and finish strong against contact. Smith has also shown she can be an impact passer as well, she finds her guards open on the perimeter well or in transition which is very exciting to watch. In a game against Waterloo, Smith dished out 5 assists to her teammates.
Vivian Guerrero Vivian Guerrero 6'1" | C Lake Mills | 2021 State WI | Lake Mills | 6’1 Senior
The senior is off to an impressive start this season and has shown she has added so much to her bag this season. She’s shown glimpses of being a floor general which is extremely exciting to watch. A player like Guerrero being confident enough to handle the ball on the perimeter is a player that other teams will not be able to stop. She is averaging 12 points per game this season. In a win over Lodi, Guerrero had a season-high 19 points. She’s taken some three point shots this season as well and has the ability to become more consistent with those as her release is smooth and well constructed. A key rebounder for her team as well, Guerrero uses her body tremendously well inside.
