Perkins progression has been a joy for me to watch over her career, she’s 74 inches tall and has another growth spurt off the court and many more on it but here are some of the other freshmen I caught either live or video, special S/O to Memorial HS coach Jyusef Larry for supplying the footage. I wanted to see both Asia Waddell Asia Waddell 5'11" | CG Grand Oaks | 2024 State TX -5’8 G (Grand Oaks) and Melinda Winston-6’0 PF (Hastings) on Saturday, the game was canceled and I have Justice Carlton Justice Carlton 6'1" | PF Seven Lakes | 2024 State TX -6’1 PF (Seven Lakes) on my calendar for today
Simran Williams Simran Williams 5'7" | SG North Shore | 2024 State TX -5’7 CG (North Shore HS)
Williams has that deceptive first step, she can handle the ball well under pressure and she has a variety of moves as well as good body control so watching her take defenders off of the dribble definitely is one of her strong points on the offensive end yet what makes that even stronger is not just the fact that she can finish with contact, her being able to not only create her shot, again under pressure, and hit the mid to long-range gives her multiple options on how to score and keeps defenders guessing
Danaya Pope-5’5 G (Humble HS)
Pope gave me a very good first look on varsity and let me play on words with the first name because she showed me she was “denier” on the defensive end, let me drop that hashtag #THROWBACK on that alone. She’s athletic, attacks the rim strong, and has a nice pull-up jumper but her energy on the defensive end definitely stood out
Raniyah Lewis Raniyah Lewis 5'8" | CG Conroe | 2024 State TX -5’7 G (Oak Ridge HS)
Lewis has been blending in with the team rather nicely and has shown that she can get hers in the flow as well as go on scoring rampages and neither surprises me since I threw that #D1Lock on her before she played her first middle school game, in fact, I didn’t have a ROSTER but when you show me what she showed, I knew what was coming and I found out her name. She’s powerful attacking the basket and equally as powerful elevating for her jumper which she creates with ease and can drop it from mid to long-range
Bryanna Stokes-5’6 SG (Navasota HS)
Stokes rhymes with STROKE is what I wrote about this young lady years ago and it seems like I’ve been waiting forever for her to get into high school and here she is, already putting up numbers and scoring from everywhere yet one other thing that stood out in elementary school was her poise, she’s serious on the court, she thinks the game, she understands how to play the passing lane and she still has good upside
Nicolette Polocheck Nicolette Polocheck 6'0" | PF Memorial | 2024 State TX -6’0 F (Memorial HS)
Polocheck has toyed with double-doubles all season after she was done with volleyball yet this stat line 15 points on 5/7. including 2/2 from BTA and 3/4 from the line shows how efficient she was, 60% from the field, 100% from past the three-point line, and 75% from the free-throw line, and no calculator was needed yet my calculations have already placed her among the top 2023 players in the country, her work ethic is just something that can be taught and she brings it every time she steps on the court
