In the end, Union was too much for Stilwell coming out on top by a final score of 59-21. Both teams showed signs of being very good by the end of this season and both feature future college talent.

Player of the Game
Kaylen Nelson Kaylen Nelson 5'11" | SG Union | 2021 State OK | 5-11 G/F | Tulsa Union | 2021 | @nelson_kaylen21
Kaylen showed signs this summer of developing her repertoire even more than what she had last high school season. On opening day, she pulled all of it out. As they say, she was in her bag. She has an outstanding jumper to go along with really good handles. She draws her defender out then uses her quickness to blow by them and finish at the rim. As a senior, she is a vocal leader and could be heard helping out some of the younger players during the game. The Old Dominion commit is a stellar defender who uses her size and quickness to virtually lock down her opponent. Nelson will fit in perfectly to Head Coach Delisha Milton-Jones’s offense with her ability to spread the floor and take her defender one-on-one. Her speed has increased dramatically from last season and opponents better be ready. Her 12 points on opening night is just the tip of the iceberg.
Standout Players
Tyla Sawney | 5-7 G | Stilwell | 2022 | @tyla_sawney
Though Stilwell had a hard time all around getting shots to fall on Monday night, Sawney was one of the bright spots for them. She is a hard-worker with a nose for the ball. She always seems to be around the ball and seemingly in the right place at the right time. She has very good handles and surprising quickness. She is tough in traffic; well-built, she can take the beating and banging on the inside. She showed a nice touch on her shots, finishing the night with seven points.
Aubrey Hishaw | 5-9 F | Tulsa Union | 2023 | @AubreyHishaw
Hishaw is still young and it can show at times. However, she has great size and looks to be the heir apparent when Kaylen Nelson Kaylen Nelson 5'11" | SG Union | 2021 State OK leaves next season. She has the quickness and touch that Nelson does and seems to have it at a much younger age. She is definitely one to watch. The hits just keep coming for Tulsa Union. She is a tough defender and gets great position when rebounding. She is very well-rounded and college coaches need to keep an eye on her. She is going to be a lot better than what she is showing already – and that is a whole lot of talent. Hishaw finished the day with nine points.
Snowda Watie | 5-6 G | Stilwell | 2024
Watie didn’t start at the point, but it once she got in the game she hardly left. Her handles are incredible and she showed signs of really being able to fill it up on an afternoon where Stilwell as a whole was having trouble getting buckets. She sticks like glue on defense and has very quick hands if you make the mistake of getting a little loose with your dribble. She is a battler, hard-nosed and tough. There is always a place on a college squad for a player who is smart and has the heart and dedication to make the most of her abilities. Snowda scored six on the afternoon, but you get the sense that she will be scoring in droves this season. College coaches should be keeping an eye on her.
Sydni Smith | 6-2 F/C | Tulsa Union | 2022 | @sydnismith2022
Coaches, get to Tulsa and watch Smith play. Now. You can thank me later. She is big, not just tall, she is big. She is strong. Her footwork is wonderful and she has the ability to finish like nobody else on the floor. She holds a D-I offer from Lamar University and more should be on the way. She is a vocal leader, always coaching, always encouraging. She is tough and is an absolutely fierce defender. Sydni is going to be a D-I player, it is just a matter of where. With her heart and fight, she is going to make a path. The sky’s the limit. Seriously. She finished with eight points, but her scoring is the least of the story. She does it all!
