Below is a list of forwards and centers who are making noise and proving that their stocks are rising soon into the season. Each of these posts have shown glimpses of how elite they will be the rest of the season and beyond. This list consists of prospects in the following conference.
Metro Classic: Martin Luther, Racine Catholic, Kenosha St. Joseph, Dominican, Shoreland Lutheran, St. Thomas More, Racine St. Catherine’s, Catholic Central and The Prairie School.
Morgann Gardner Morgann Gardner 6'1" | PF Racine Lutheran | 2021 State WI | Racine Catholic | 6’1 Senior
Gardner is a very athletic big with a bright future. She is leading the conference in scoring by averaging 23 points per game. She plays with some of the best natural instincts in her class, but she is also very disciplined defensively. She does not fall for shot fakes in the block and does very well keeping her positioning and playing straight up. She is averaging nearly 14 rebounds per game as well. Offensively she is a great cutter and slasher through the lane for her size. She is comfortable driving to the hole or catching the ball while running to the basket because she does have some quickness in her game. She has good rotation on her jump shot and perimeter three as well. Gardner is committed to Nebraska Omaha.
Joselyn Gonzales | Martin Luther | 5’10 Junior
The junior is a tremendous role player for this Martin Luther team that can easily take over a game any given night simply by her ability to utilize her teammates and get herself open without the ball. Her movement and court awareness is extremely high. She seems to always be in the right place at the right time. She is averaging nearly 8 points per game and 7 rebounds per game. She has great length on the floor allowing her to be an offensive rebounding threat. Gonzales has a smart shot selection as well and knows when to knock down the perimeter basket- she doesn’t shy away from the three pointer. In a win over Racine St. Catherines, Gonzales finished with 13 points.
Alicia Burgos Alicia Burgos 6'2" | PF Dominican | 2023 State WI | Dominican | 6’0 Sophomore
The sophomore has had to step up and play a major role for her team this season. In doing so she’s been able to successfully lead her team to some very impressive wins. She is averaging 12 points per game and scored 24 points in a win over a talented Catholic Central team. She averages a double-double with 10 rebounds per game as well. Burgos- Schroeder is extremely dynamic as she has the quickness and athleticism to play and defend the guard position for this team. She’s shown glimpses of impressive play making ability.
Deja Rivers | Kenosha St. Joseph | 5’11 Junior
The junior is an impact player for St. Joseph has really put up some consistent numbers offensively for this team. She’s a spark plug that can knock down the 15 footer and is incredibly gifted slashing to the rim. She has a smooth touch to her shot and seems to be comfortable moving without the ball as well. She also has a nice shot off the catch that we will probably see more of this season. In a win over St. Thomas More, Rivers finished with a season-high 18 points. Rivers is competitive and smart on the floor. A defensive standout as well, Rivers is able to guard the post position with confidence and incredible footwork.
Kayla Loos | Catholic Central | 6’0 Sophomore
Loos has great upside for the future and is a player to keep an eye on as she continues to develop parts of her game. She has a long body with a tall vertical reach; she moves with long strides, allowing her to cover a lot of ground quickly. She seems to be comfortable with the ball in her hands so hopefully she can add more guards skills so she can attack from the perimeter more effectively. Loos is critical in transition for her team and does extremely well finishing against contact. She’s good at using her body inside and has great mobility to be a standout two-way athlete for the next three years. She is averaging 7 points per game so far into this season. In a game against West Allis Central, Loos finished with 10 points.
