Here are six standout wing prospects from this past week’s action:
Evie Goetz Evie Goetz 5'11" | SF Denton Guyer | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 6’1’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Denton Guyer HS – Goetz is a point forward who can do it all. She knocked down three triples from the catch, made brilliant passes, and rebounded well at both ends of the court against Skyline on Friday. The TCU commit is an incredibly versatile weapon on offense. Her combination of size and skill make her a mismatch nightmare for opposing defenders. She ended the contest with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Eryka Patton Eryka Patton 5'11" | SF Lewisville | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 5’10’’ Small Forward | Denton Guyer HS – Patton is listed at the three spot, but she spent most of the game playing in the post on Friday. She moves well in space and looked very comfortable handling the ball both in transition and on the perimeter. The senior forward drilled a baseline mid-range jump shot and also had some beautiful finishes at the basket, showing off her body control in the process. Furthermore, Patton proved that she has the ability to defend multiple positions. She dominated the defensive glass as well, finishing the game with double-digit rebounds.
Jiya Perry Jiya Perry 5'11" | SF DeSoto | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’11’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | DeSoto HS – Perry possesses great mechanics on her jumper and has no issue draining the three ball. While she did contribute as a scorer from behind the arc as well as from the free throw line, I was most impressed with Perry’s defensive effort vs. Allen. The 2022 prospect is a relentless defender who causes all sorts of havoc at that end of the floor. She did a fantastic job of getting into passing lanes, breaking on passes like a cornerback playing trap coverage.
Hailey Mason | 2022 | 5’8’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Denton Guyer HS – Mason is a twitchy athlete who plays with a ton of energy at both ends. She does a little bit of everything for the Wildcats. The junior wing had a productive night against Skyline. She made smart decisions when leading the break, crashed the offensive boards, and defended at a high level. Mason also scored with some crafty finishes at the basket, including a double-clutch layup in transition after freeing herself up with a nice behind-the-back move.
Alexis Cortez Alexis Cortez 5'10" | SF Allen | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 5’11’’ Small Forward | Allen HS – Cortez came off the bench for Allen on Tuesday, but I don’t believe she exited the game after being inserted midway through the first quarter. She is an outstanding on-ball defender. She has quick hands and moves her feet well at that end of the floor. On offense, the sophomore small forward is an excellent three-point shooter. She buried a deep three from the catch and earned three free throws after drawing a foul on another one of her attempts. Cortez is already a gifted player, and she is only going to get better as she continues to develop her game.
Mariah Watson | 2023 | 5’9’’ Shooting Guard/Small Forward | Denton Guyer HS – Watson did a great job of scoring off the drive on Friday. She makes timely cuts and finishes in a variety of ways at the hoop. The slashing wing hit numerous floaters and runners. She likes to get downhill but will throw on the breaks when necessary and float it over outstretched defenders with a soft touch. Additionally, Watson has a high motor. Her hustle was never in question when she was on the court.
