There are a lot of underrated prospects throughout this league which has teams from Wayne, Duplin, and Sampson County. What is in store for this conference during the 2020-21 season? Prep Girls Hoops NC previews the East Central 2-A.
East Duplin
East Duplin won this conference last year and has a good chance to keep up the sustained success they’ve had over the last several seasons. They’ll be sparked by 2023 forward Amaiya Hall, a prospect that led the team in scoring as a freshman and will likely do so again this season. With 2021 guards Nakaysha Ivory and Imari Judge also back in the lineup, the Panthers will be a tough team to beat.
Wallace-Rose Hill
A trio of guards will lead the way for the Bulldogs this year: Alexus Wilson, Esther Avelar-Sosa and Jordan Barwick. All of these 2021 prospects along with 2022 forward Iliyah Pearsall are their top four returning scorers from last season. The Bulldogs finished in the middle of the pack in 2020 and are looking to improve their position as the season nears.
James Kenan
James Kenan had a solid 2020 season finishing in the middle of the pack and winning 11 games. The Tigers return a pair of 2022 guards that can score the rock: Nora Williams and Emma Avent. If this pair can tear it up scoring wise, James Kenan will have another solid season.
Goldsboro
Goldsboro is a program that has a good history of winning, but has struggled recently, especially last season. The Cougars finished with a 5-16 record last season and they return several starts from last years team including 2021 guard Mary Archibald. With 2022 sharpshooter Kaila Bell also back, Goldsboro is looking to get back to their winning ways of years past.
Spring Creek
The Gators lost their top scorer to graduation after finishing near the bottom of the conference standings last year. Look for 2021 guards Makiya Hobbs and Jordan Surguy to spark the Spring Creek offense. Hobbs averaged nearly 12 points per game as a junior for the Gators.
Midway
The Raiders had a really good season in 2020 picking up 17 wins led by 2022 guard Kris’shyia McKoy Kris’shyia McKoy 5'7" | CG Midway | 2022 NC . She’ll be one of the top scorers in the conference this year and is one of the more underrated prospects in her class. Midway has a chance to contend near the top of the conference if they get even more production from their standout point guard.
Clinton
Another team that could win a conference championship this season is the Clinton Dark Horses. They return their top three leading scorers from last year including 2021 Isa Banks. She had an excellent junior season averaging 19 points and eight rebounds per contest last year. Add 2022 Khaliah Chestnutt and 2021 NaKeviah Evans and this team could be very dangerous as the season progresses.
