In what is sure to be a season unlike any other, players, teams and coaches are eager to get on the court for a six-week season. Morris County will have some talent returning. Montville captured the Morris County Tournament after defeating Chatham last year in the county final. Let’s take a look at the top Morris County players heading into the 2021 basketball season.
Bella Vito Bella Vito 5'8" | CG Montville | 2021 State NJ , Montville, Sr. – Vito averaged 15 points per game for a Montville team that had a tremendous season on the way to a 27-1 record and Morris County Tournament title. She had 21 double-figure performances on the season, with her season-high of 28 points coming against Morris Catholic. She scored 24 points against Morristown-Beard, 23 points against Watchung Hills and 22 points against Paramus. She had double-doubles against Newark Tech (18 points and 12 rebounds), Lodi Immaculate (17 points and 11 rebounds) and Mendham (18 points and 10 rebounds). Vito also had 76 assists and 57 steals on the season.
Tess Ford, Chatham, Sr. – Ford had a productive junior season for Chatham. She’ll take on a greater role this season for the Cougars. She finished with 13 double-figure performances on the season, and she knocked down 49 triples and dished out 107 assists on the season.
Angeleen Mulero, Randolph, Sr. – Mulero was the top scorer on Randolph last season with 11.8 points per game. She finished with 20 double-figure games last season, with her season-high of 23 coming against West Morris. She knocked down 40 3-pointers, made 84 steals on defense and dished out 78 assists on the season.
Ivana Tisma, Jefferson, Jr. – Tisma was the spark for Jefferson last season with 19 double-figure outings. She averaged 12.7 points per game. She hit 20 points five times on the season, including 24 against West Morris in late February. She saw time as a freshman and was a major contributor. She can make steals and get some rebounds as a guard.
Tyonna Bailey Tyonna Bailey 5'10" | CG Montclair Immaculate | 2023 State NJ , Morris Catholic, So. – Bailey had a tremendous season as a freshman at Morris Catholic. She has picked up offers from some top programs in the nation such as Oklahoma, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Marquette, St. John’s, DePaul, West Virginia, Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan State, Georgetown and Seton Hall. She averaged 18.1 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game. A first team all-conference selection, Bailey earned a ton of spotlight as one of the top freshmen in the state. She had 20 double-doubles on the season. Bailey had 10 double-doubles to start the year and she was able to get to the line and also make some plays for her teammates. Bailey will be a top sophomore to watch this season.
Jayden Watson Jayden Watson 6'1" | SF Morris Catholic | 2021 State NJ , Morris Catholic, Sr. – Watson was another double-double machine for Morris Catholic, finishing with 19 on the season. She averaged 16.2 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. She was able to get to the foul line and hit shots from the perimeter. Watson played her first two years at Hudson Catholic before coming in and making an immediate impact for the Morris Catholic Crusaders. Watson has received Division I interest and will look to finish her high school career out strong.
Grace Soltes Grace Soltes 6'1" | PF West Morris | 2022 State NJ , West Morris, Jr. – Soltes is a dynamic player who can score and attack the glass. In her sophomore year with the Wolfpack, she averaged 14.6 points and 8.6 rebounds, finishing with 12 double-doubles. Soltes hit double figures in 24 of 28 games, and she showcased the ability to draw contact and block shots down low.
