After last seasons Sweet 16 tournament got cut short, Anderson County was among the favorites to win the state tournament last season. This year they have returned to make a statement again as to why they are the favorite to win it all again. The number one team in the state has some talented pieces. Here are some player evaluations of the top team in the state after watching them play.
Anderson County
Amiya Jenkins Amiya Jenkins 5'10" | SF Anderson County | 2022 State KY -2022- Amiya is one of the state’s top players. She is currently averaging 16.8 points per game. Leading an 11-0 Anderson County squad. Jenkins is probably one of the most athletic players in the state. She has the ability to take over games on both ends of the floor. Defensively she can guard multiple positions. Her speed, length, and athleticism makes her a problem for any offense in the passing lanes. She rebounds well for a guard. On the offensive end of the floor she is very efficient. She is patient in her scoring. Amiya doesn’t force shots. She has a nice jumper and pull up game. She handles the ball well and can get to the rim and finish over top of defenders. From what I have been told she holds multiple D1 offers.
Sophie Smith Sophie Smith 5'7" | CG Anderson County | 2021 State KY -2021- Sophie is one of the best point guards in the state. She only averages 8 points a game, but her impact is way bigger than points. Smith absolutely runs the team. She takes care of the back basketball and gets everyone involved. Her basketball IQ shows every game. She doesn’t get rattled. Smith plays with great composure. She has the ability to knock down shots. One of the things I like about her is her ability to find teammates after penetrating. She has great vision. Sophie will definitely have a good career at the collegiate level at the point guard spot.
Jacie Chesser-2022- Jacie is a skilled post player with great touch around the basket. Not many players know how to get position in the post, but Chesser is great at it. She does her work early. She posts hard and once she gets you behind her its over. Jacie has great footwork and post moves. She is tough around the rim. She uses her body well and plays through contact. Chesser is a good passer as well. She doesn’t force shots. If she sees the double team coming she will try to find the open player. Jacie also rebounds the ball well. Overall she is a solid player. She will definitely play at the next level in my opinion.
Other notable players on the team are Tiffani Riley, Lainey Johnson, and Rachel Satterly. All three of these players are averaging around 8 points per game on a well balanced team. Look for Anderson County to make a run at the state title again this year.
