Now that the season has started here in Kentucky, some players have come out hot early. With so many games being played and canceled for Covid-19, getting to see as many players as possible is a hard thing to do. For the games I have seen, here is an evaluation of players from East Jessamine and Pulaski County. They didn’t play each other just two teams I have been able to see.
East Jessamine
JerMyra Christian-2023- JerMyra is one of the toughest competitive kids in the state at the point guard position. Her ability to read passing lanes gets her a lot of layups. She is tough in transition because she stays in attack mode. Christian will try to put the team on her back and carry it. She is currently leading East Jessamine in scoring with 15.8 points per game. She is grabbing 4.3 rebounds per game as well. I would like to see her develop a more consistent jumper. Once she does she will be even harder to guard.
Iesha Dean-2023- Iesha is a long athletic guard forward with raw ability. Her long arms helps her to rebound out of position. She leads the team with 9.5 rebounds per game. Dean attacks the glass and gets second chance points. On the defensive end she has the ability to rebound and push the ball in transition. She can knock down shots. Most of her points come from getting to the rim or put backs. Iesha is second in scoring at 12.5 points per game. She is basically a walking double-double. I would like to see her develop her left hand more and jumper. If those two things get better she will be on the radar of a lot of college coaches standing at 5’10” with great athleticism. Still young and raw.
Irma Hagins-2022- Irma is a scrappy quick guard that can knock down shots. She helps the team defensively with her speed and ability to get out in the passing lanes. Hagins is a lefty with a quick release. She isn’t a high volume shooter, but definitely a player you have to account for because she can knock down the three. She is a point guard who will run the team and take her shots when she is open. I would like to see her get more aggressive on the offensive end of the floor because she is a capable scorer.
Pulaski County
Caroline Oaks-2022- Caroline is a crafty guard with a nice jumper. She plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor. Most of her points come from attacking the rim and mid-range jumpers. She is more of a floor general but comes up with baskets when the team needs them. She is a solid defender and does well in the press. Oaks is currently averaging 10.7 point per game for second on the team in scoring.
Madelyn Blankenship-2022- Madelyn leads the Maroons is scoring at 12.4 points per game. She is probably the best threat from deep on the team. Blankenship has a very nice jump shot. She just doesn’t shot the three, she uses mid-range jumpers as well. She plays under control and handles the ball well. Madelyn is a very solid player Pulaski County.
